Criminal Girls Release in Ireland

Postby xethyrus » Tue Oct 11, 2016 11:36 am

This may seem like a very delayed topic, but because of the issues with A.O.T. in Ireland I learnt more about this topic recently.

I was recently talking to Ireland's censors board about the A.O.T. release. I didn't get all the information I wanted, but I learned the following.

18+ games which are released physically need to be submitted to the IFCO for rating for approval to be sold in Ireland.
- They said that Criminal girls was never even submitted to them (same for A.O.T. at the time)

About a month later A.O.T. appeared on PSN and XBL stores available digitally, and I haven't seen it on sale in any store physically.
I asked the board if it was possible for them to release the games digitally without that extra approval, but I never got a reply about that. I'm assuming they can.
I also asked them if the approval process cost the companies money, or if the taxpayers paid for it (either way we're paying for the pointless check in some form), but I never got a reply on that either.

So long story short, I think it may actually be okay for Criminal girls to be put on Ireland's psn, seeing as the games wasn't technically released physically here (even though it's pretty easy to import form UK).
Even if you put it up now it probably wouldn't make any extra sales (Especially seeing as anime games don't have that much of a foothold in Ireland), but it might be something to keep in mind if you have 18+ game sin future.

On this topic again. I've finally gotten the precise rules of releasing 18+ games in Ireland. According to the information PEGI are supposed to inform you about these rules, but I guess they didn't.

To release an 18+ game physically in Ireland it has to go through our censor's office to be reviewed. This review is generally a practicality. There is a fee for the review which I guess you don't want to pay. But you can release games digitally without needing to go through this review. So like I suspected you should be able to put the game on PSN without doing the review.

I'm not sure if you'll actually get any new customers after all this time, but there's no real reason to not have it on PSN in Ireland now (unless Sony charge something to list it)
