Kyoko's voice change...

Postby laharl95 » Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:09 am

Does anyone know what hapoened to Kyoko's voice in the new scenarios for the Vita? Everyone else so far have their original voice actors. Even Saphire who sounds has a slight different seems to be voice by her voice actor. But Kyoko has a problem. She seems to be voice by a very young male.. Does anyone know what happened?

I noticed too. Kyoko, asuka, sapphire, and i think almaz and geoffrey too. Seems weird hearing different voices especially since the main story had the original VA

I think the only ones that have Obvious voice changes are Geoffrey and Kyoko. And i check, is not like keeping up with a voice change in Japanese, their Seiryu (misspelled, probably) still voices them. The others on the other hand just seem to have a subtle tone change, which is understandle considerong the gap between the scenarios from the Ps3, to the Vita's 3 years later

You mean the english voices? I know names aren't in the credits, can't you just ask NISA if they came back?

Their names aren't in the credits as they can't afford to credit them, which is why everyone spends so long trying to work out who did the voices whenever a new game comes out. :P

Afford to credit them? What the hell does that mean? If they can afford to pay them for their service, why can't they put their name in the credits? You mean their not allowed to tell us who voiceed whom, we just have to guess!?!

What about the actors themselves, can you not ask "Sorry to bother you, Mr. Bosch, but i was wondering if you reprised your role as Almaz in D3:AoD?". Why the secrecy?

I know every now and then there are union reasons, which I'm assuming is the reason why Crispin Freeman didn't play Zetta in his D4 appearance but not everyone that was in D3 was part of a union, so why couldn't they tell us?

The union thing is what prevents them from using certain voice actors as far as I'm aware, as they cost too much for them to use (and I'm guessing this is due to a requirement to credit them).
Don't ask me how it works, all I know is that's the way it is from what I've read.

Ah! So it was because of Unions that NISA gave her new voice actress to Pram in Prinny 2 and Disgaea 4 that everyone complains about. Is just our luck that Unions keep the customers from enjoying a character to its fullest. Personally, Prans new voice is a bit annoying, but is not that bad for me. But i don't understand what hapoened to Kyoko. Geoffrey is the same case. She sound nothing like she was before. At least Pram's new VA has similarities, and Zetta's new voice... Is badass and not a bad replacement at all.

You can't fault the unions to looking out for their members.
Not like the members are oblivious to these requirements either, and they're quite possibly the reason why they joined.

I did not. I said is bad for is not for us.I like that the Union takes care of it members, but it does make hard for small companies like Nisa to give get more experienced voice actors, or to get returning voices when the polocies change.

Neither was I saying that you did. :P

Though really, it is kinda unfortunate when people unionising means the voice of a recurring character changes, but these things happen. So much so sometimes you don't even notice.

NISA should start adding "we maintain the right to utilize assets in the event of an updated re-release or DLC" or other some such thing to everybody's contracts. If they can, anyway.

It shouldn't be a big issue. NISA is based in California and almost every anime VA is either based there now or is going to be soon enough. Nobody has to pay for travel expenses and whatnot.

Really, unions do some good for them I'm sure, but they can be real pricks to us.

*Nods with his Prinny head* Agreed. Ah well. I'll get use to it just Like I'm trying to get use to the JPanese voice overs in my second play throught to get the rest of the endings and the Diez gentlemen. I'm still far from doing the alternate scenarios, i just wanted to check them out before using the time ( buts thats after i do a few runs in the item world). Fun fact: the Majin class unlocks itself after the main scenario is complete instead of having to do a second playthrought in this game, thought the bill still needs to be passed.

They do re-use assets, as that's why the voice work for the majority of the game is the same, but they need to make new ones for the extra scenarios.
The only case where this didn't happen was with Afternoon of Darkness, as they re-recorded all of Etan's lines so the voice switch was now consistent throughout the series as well as within itself with the new Etna mode.
