I can't recall, but did Nanako almost die in the game like she is here? Or is she actually dying in the anime for some asinine reason?

Pretty sure she passes out in the TV world, then she definitely "dies" in the real world. Based on your choices regarding Namatame, she either stays dead or Kuma/Teddie revives her.

It's possible I'm misremembering, but I think she's in a coma after they rescue her from the TV world, then she wakes up and starts recovering just before the fog starts pervading town. Just like in the anime, Adachi calls one day and everyone rushes to the hospital, and that's where she "dies."

I definitely know that if you throw Namatame into the TV, she's not there to see you off at the train station (and you don't get a sequence to run around town for one last day). Whether she's in a coma or dead, though, might not have actually been revealed.

I figured it out in game after you got those same clues. Although, the game does give you a list of, like, every character with a name you ever met, so you don't have to randomly pick one out of thin air ^_^
