Hey guys, long time no see.

It was a pretty great game, probably my most favourite game in the series so far, sure there weren't as many endings as previous games but that isn't necessarily a bad thing, I mean it almost being 3 games in one was an interesting concept and the DLC characters are some of my favourite Makers in the series yet. It's not perfect, it has it's niggles especially with costume DLC being set as default outfits and stuff. It is my first PS4 platinum and it was probably the easiest one I've obtained in the series.

Emerald? When did you decide to return to the NISA forums? Did something happen at the Nepboards?

Not really, just thought I'd drop in to see how things have been here, it definitely feels kinda empty.

They're all gone.

You're next.

I wanna talk about Uzume Tennouboshi.

I've said this before but I really do like her. Not so much for her outfit, which I find rather tacky and she'd be better off buttoning up her bloody shirt and skirt. I have no idea why she dresses like that but, then again, the designs in VII were rather questionable overall (except for Steamax and Affimojas). I also don't like her for her Orange Heart persona, which is extremely shrill and annoying even when it bleeds over to Uzume's human form. But it's not that "tough" quality that hooks me in, mind you.

At the start of the game, you're in the Zero Dimension and what a bleak place it is. There are very few traces of life and none whatsoever of civilisation. For all intents and purposes, you're alone in a harsh landscape that has absolutely nothing in it. It's like if Dubai fell ill with whatever Silent Hill's got only there's no fog.

So what makes this place actually bearable? You guessed it: it's Uzume. I found the whole "tough facade" and "true self" thing pretty weak since Uzume shows herself to be plentifully positive and cheery anyway (not to mention Orange Heart as her "true self" is a reality I'd rather not face). In the post-apocalyptic environment, she's welcoming and yet always raring to go for what seems like the next new adventure. With her around, the Zero Dimension feels like a very nice place. She makes it feel like a camping trip instead of some The Last of Us-esque survival grunting session; she makes it positive just by being there and doing her thing. Even in a desolate wasteland, Uzume manages to make the narrative about cute girls doing cute things.

This is where she contrasts with Neptune. Compile Heart still seems to adore the narcissistic bitch (which has fortunately lessened from Victory but still) and she's still butting in and cracking jokes and being a general pain when she's not really welcome to. Neptune doesn't really fit into the setting so much as she does try to force the tone to bend to her will. Sorry Neptune but the positivity-shaped hole is better filled by Uzume than you, and no number of whacks with a hammer will change that. Uzume fits the tone of the narrative completely naturally and manages to brighten everything up without being obtrusive about it.

No, I have not played beyond the Gold Dimension chapter. Upon learning I missed the requirements for the True Ending, I dropped the game as well as any care I had for it.

Wait, you actually liked something from this game? You sure you weren't drunk or something and just imagined everything up?

I've liked things from this series before, lad.

I find that somewhat hard to believe to be entirely honest. I don't think I've ever heard you say anything remotely positive about the series up until now. Closest was maybe over Brave but even that came with a lot of "buts". Though I could just be confusing you with Kaiser, if you remember him, regarding that point.

Granted, I haven't seen every single one of your posts either (I don't go to the fanfic thread for example), so I could have easily missed something as indicated by your second sentence.

If you don't mind me asking, what are some of the other things you've liked? I really am curious as I've always been under the impression that you've disliked basically, well, everything regarding the series.

For the love of all things holy, please do not confuse me with Kaiser.

... I actually can't quite remember. Past details have gotten a bit hazy and I can't remember moments of praise I've given.

Oh, I managed to remember one aspect as of current: Anonydeath. He is a fantastic villain, although the whole brainwashing and child abduction can feel a bit dark in tone for Neptunia (even if that does spread to the rest of the Seven Sages). Like most great villains, what makes Anonydeath great is the context that surrounds him. He fits the series well with his camp attitude and brilliant visual design. Furthermore, he's also able to actually stand to the party unlike the rest of the Seven Sages; even when in combat, his intelligence allows him to keep ground against them so they can't just steamroll him. Some might say his ability to fluster the party, especially Noire, would count for this but I don't believe he should get points for that, as Noire was the game's chew toy and getting crapped on was essentially her role.

Still, though, the Seven Sages as a whole suffer for being tremendously unthreatening buffoons. I still detest Iris Heart for constantly dominating every scene she's in and having some clause in her contract that makes it so she can never really be threatened. Even Lord Hater from Wander over Yonder at his stupidest wasn't someone you could just mess with.

You two did go back and forth quite a lot over a bunch of stuff so I could just be mistaking who said what. Regardless if I actually am being mistaken or not, I'm apologizing anyway. I know you two didn't quite get along too well...to put it lightly.

A shame you don't remember too much but thank you for taking the time to recall something and type it up.

FINALLY got around to start playing this game.

Despite it being the first of the series to get a Chinese version, I wasn't going to buy a whole system just for this game (even though that's totally what I did for Xenoblade X  ).

Just met Umio in-story, and so far, this game is alright. Even though the game feels somewhat harder.

And the localization, while not as terrible as NISA, do they really need to add those extra lines and adjectives unnecessarily to Neptune's dialogue?!

Don't worry; that's only for early on when your attacks are suboptimal. It gets to the point where high quantities of Rush attacks followed by an AoE EXE skill will get you through with the greatest of ease.
