If you're looking at a box, you have to look carefully to spot the developer. The publisher (NISA in this case) is more likely to be prominently displayed. Sometimes the developer isn't even included.

Ar Tonelico was co-developed by GUST and Banpresto. If you look carefully, you can spot them on the back cover. But mostly, a quick Wikipedia search will reveal who developed any given game.

@ Vampko - Yes. I meant Nis(a)...I just left off the "a"...sorry about that :?

@ magusgs - Thanks for the clarification (and the pic) 8-)

So...in America...is NISA strictly a producer, or do they also develop games of their own?

My experience is that NISA usually just localizes the nippon ichi games to the americas. that may not be completely true but I haven't seen any games made by them since i got disgaea 1.

This is not true. NISA localizes / publishes games from several partners, including GUST, NIS, and Idea Factory.

So...if I'm understanding it correctly...Nisa 'made' the 1st Disgaea; but then licensed it & gave it to Atlus to publish...
Is that right?
If so...why?
Isn't publishing the games (here in America) kinda' their "thing"?
Just wondering-

No, Atlus localized the first Disgaea. NISA didn't exist then.

^ Who (which company) was Atlus localizing the game for?

Was it that Nippon Ichi existed (in Japan) - but they just hadn't started anything in America yet?

I'm pretty sure it was Nippon Ichi Japan that made the first disgaea game. Its been awhile, but I believe the first game published by NISA was Phantom Brave.

Maybe Disgaea and Phantom Brave were their 1st two games, because looking at my games, it looks like Disgaea was 2003 and Phantom was 2004.
I'm not sure if there was anything before Disgaea or between the 2 of them.

Exactly. They didn't have a base in America yet. Orliatzu is right. And there were many NIS Japan games that came out before Disgaea, specifically the Marl Kingdom games, and La Pucelle. Phantom Brave was the very first NIS America endeavor.

Okay.
I've got it.
That makes sense, then, that my copy of La Pucelle says 2002 (and Mastiff) on it :)
Sometimes, Vampko, I see (in your sig). "La Pucelle: Ragnarok"...
...What is that, exactly?...
...A sequel or expansion to Tactics?
Thanks!
