I play all kinds of games, niche anime games are my favorite though. The more a review like this says it's bad the more I wanna play it.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2010/09/w ... mes-japan/

“Japan’s never been very receptive to foreign games,” says Gwyn Campbell, who works for a major game publisher in Tokyo and is the host of a gaming podcast with other expatriates. “The term ‘foreign game’ is traditionally an insult — it means ‘low quality.’”

The anti-Western prejudice is deeply ingrained in the minds of Japanese gamers, who traditionally favor handheld devices like the Nintendo DS over high-powered consoles like the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

Yo-ge, kuso-ge, goes the saying: “Western game, shit game.”

Is that a yes or no? XD

Anything NISA puts out.

Basically, a game for a small fanbase, as opposed to something "Mainstream".

The best way to think of it I suppose would be games that are geared towards the tastes of a small sector of the gaming community.

Then it's no longer niche. A true niche fan's tastes change with the target's popularity. For example, I was once an anime fan. Then anime became mainstream, and I became a Tsukihime / Elfen Lied fan. Then that became mainstream, and I became a visual novel fan.

I'm still working on what to move to next when visual novels catch on.

I don't think that V/Ns will catch on too fast in the US, although I am starting to see them pop up on iTunes a lot lately in English. Just downloaded one for free trial version from Japan that was in English. (It was big too at over 800megs! )
