Probably because the text wasn't meant to be intrusive (unlike with the "SAMPLE" pics, which were made to be hard to detext specifically).

Just like with about every holiday like that these days (you know, mother's day, father's day, even christmas dammit): so businesses have an excuse to make specific offers and get more out of their customers >_> (on the upside, at least it gives people an excuse to give an expensive present once a year instead of having to give lots of presents across the year, but that depends on the person really)
Japan has it worse though, because it's customary to also give a gift to whoever gives you a present, so there's Valentine's day, and then another day where people who got presents can give back another gift. Ugh.
