Context of the interview says otherwise.

Anyway...

No one is asking that, Sik is asking what he meant by that 50% battle lines thing. Since it was rather vague and didn't give enough detail. Explaining something 'that's already been said' likely wouldn't be a problem.

Look at Sik's post a re-read it to see what I was talking about.
Personally I don't find any of it a problem, since I don't care how much is voiced. I just want the game.

It wasn't vague. He was saying in the context of that example, the battle lines would equal 50% of the total voiced lines that they were given pay allocation for. Being the 6000.

I seriously doubt that was anything but an example. But, saying that the battle lines were equivalent to half their budget is not an example from what I read. But, the numbers themselves are examples I'd say.

Well that makes sense, which is how I took it in the first place.
But obviously from the responses I've seen, it was vague.. or rather... confusing.

Because people didn't seem to get it.

Well, i'm not one to comment on whether something is vague. I tend to understand the most confusing things much easier than others. Though when it comes to the simple things...xD

Yeah, pretty much this, even if the numbers aren't exactly that, do battle quotes really make up that much of the voicing (in proportion)? In any case I don't really care about battle quotes, storyline is much more important.

Again, the 3000 is referring to how many (theoritically) battle lines there are, and the 6000 (theoritically) is referring to how many lines they were budgeted to dub. It's not the total lines in the game.

OK, now this is more confusing, are those numbers actually real (well, around the real numbers) or just made up to make an example?

I made a guess and assume the battle quotes were an example for explaining the amount of content they couldn't voice in english because it is not unusual for NISA games (Ar Tonelico is the only one I'm sure of) to make these type of difficult choices.

If it was just battle CRIES I wouldn't be too disappointed, but if it was actual chatter between characters than I'm a sad panda....

Personally I think the voice actors are extremely over paid. I hate hearing that a game got shafted because of budget constraints and the cost of voice actors.

You can never forget those money grubbing bastards.

I really don't think budget constraints are because of the asking price...and I mean to save money, they could always not include the JP VAs, unless somebody can prove to me, 100% that JP VAs don't cost anything

Of course I'm not saying to take those out either, I just think a game released in the US should have the majority of the scenes voiced in our language  though I personally don't care in this case, since with 14-ish characters, there's gotta be a limit to how much can be voiced heh

NISA are great about keeping the games as pure as possible, it's much cheaper to dub a game rather than get the original Japanese voice cast. I really appreciate that about them, the dubbing has to suffer because of it, but a larger chunk will likely opt for the Japanese voices than the English dub anyway.

To be fair, VAs generally are OK with dealing with lower salaries if they like the project, though union VAs have to avoid being credited or they get in trouble...

Not to NISA since the voices are already recorded =P Pretty sure they costed a lot for the original development teams. In fact, I think Japanese VAs get paid even more... though that's mainly because Japan likes to go for celebrities to do that job, instead of good-but-not-well-known VAs (which are cheaper).

Emerald Emblem wrote:it's much cheaper to dub a game rather than get the original Japanese voice cast.

Or maybe the fact that the Japanese VAs can't speak well other languages... (there's always an exception, but that's really uncommon)
