This is why game reviews fail...

The bad reviews themselves aren't surprising, I know people hate on JRPGs for whatever reason. But what does surprise me, is the whole "this is a perverted game, and everyone who plays it sick" attitude. It's like taking a step back and saying "all Japanimation is porn". And yes, ill call it that, because some people still have that mindset. I really didnt even find the first game that perverted myself (for someone who's not into blatent ecchi).

I'm not surprised at all and I've been watching anime and playing JRPGs since I was a kid. You have to understand to people who are outsiders it's some strange weird phenomenon that's beyond their comprehension. When they see something like this:



To them they are young girls being made into a fetish. I think you get where I'm going but I'm not trying to turn this into a morality battle I'm just saying that we see these as just anime characters because that's what they are, but it's common from what my experience for people out side of the anime community to treat animated characters like real people why I don't know that's just how many of them see it.

Well yeah, there are tons of people who don't understand it, nor bother looking into any of it.

However the main idea of the post, was showing a terrible review, that appeared to be based on looking at the cover, rather than saying anything about the gameplay period.

If you want to complain about reviews, do it in the review thread.

Reviewers are people too, and they have opinions. If they think we're perverted basement dwellers who jack off to kiddie porn just because we play a game like this, then that's their opinion. There's no need trying to convince them otherwise by making a post on a forum of a localization company that brings over those types of games regularly. And, you most certainly won't convince them otherwise. No matter what you try, they will just think you're in stronger denial, which makes you more 'guilty'.

Just, leave it be.

Why not focus on the POSITIVE reviews? Or the ones which are more middleground? Why focus on so much negativity? It makes it look like you guys are trying to convince yourselves of something, or have something to prove or whatever.

People have been treating the otaku crowd like creepers globally for ever. It's just a part of having a hobby that isn't 'mainstream'.

If you SERIOUSLY feel like you need to do something about it, then inform the reviewer, or the publisher of the review about why you feel they unfairly represented the demographic who plays the games. THAT will have an effect. It may not be a huge one. But, it will help to at least put a small semblance that 'maybe, JUST MAYBE, these sort of people are decent human beings like ourselves. And they just have interests in other things', in their heads.

Just always remember to keep things civil and respectful.

I find these kind of reviews amusing as they'll blab on about how morally wrong it is to look at 'cartoony 12-year olds', yet these reviewers will also play games where they blow people to pieces with a shotgun, which in reality is more morally wrong, yet they aren't going to complain about that, because to them its a natural thing to do in an WRPG/FPS.
In the end its just a matter of cultural differences.

Why bother? Either you don't take reviews period, or you take both good and bad reviews. People here seem to care about the positive reviews and dismiss the negative ones without even taking a proper look at it.

If you're not interested that's ok, but the op clearly had enough opinions about the matter to bring it up, and I personally have related opinions, as do others. Not everything on a forum has to have a purpose, sometimes people just like talking about something just for the sake of conversation, what else would be the point of the off topic threads, or the "who is your favorite ____" threads. People are just curious about other people's opinions on a subject is all. Now if someone is outright insulting reviewers as a whole or something and/or you have a conflicting opinion with what they said, by all means feel free to speak up. But if someone isn't breaking any rules please don't tell them they they can't/shouldn't post about something.

Read the final paragraph in the WoT. That's where I address what you can do to try and better the situation. This is not going to do anything to better the situation. It's the wrong place to try and put attention towards the issue.

Would you go on a physics forum, and post a video that shows someone who gives poor reasons that physics is wrong? You might, to ridicule the person who is in the video, and get others to ridicule that person with you. Or you might just have to have a bunch of people point out what was wrong/'absurd' with their viewpoint. You wouldn't think that that post would change the viewpoint of the person in the video. Because that person in the video wouldn't bother with a physics forum, because, in their mind, 'they're all a bunch of misguided fools'.

It's a similar situation here.

You're not doing anything against the rules or inherently 'wrong'. I just think it really has little purpose, and I don't care to see it.

If you think that means I'm 'abandoning' you, or 'giving up', then I hope you change your mind, but there's not much I can do about that.

Yeah, I wouldn't have made a separate thread for it myself. But it was done, and something was said in this thread that I wanted to respond to that wasn't mentioned in the other, so *shrugs*. I'm sure the case is similar for others who posted too. I know you aren't nagging me specifically, but it didn't seem like you were talking about the actual action of starting the thread in general specifically to begin with either so...

And this scene is why I'm surprised that the first game has a T rating instead of M. It's pretty much the most risky scene in the entire game though, and makes sense in context... though yeah, it's otaku bait.
