Stat Growths in Characters And Items

Postby DarkMatt » Fri Mar 09, 2012 4:36 pm

Hi, it's me again. I'm curious about something that hasn't really been nailed down in anywhere I've looked so I'm up and asking here. I apologize if I completely miss the place where I can find out about this.

Just how do stat growths work in general? I'm curious because I've heard talk about people putting stat boosting innocents in and it making a difference when the item levels up with them inside. And since I'm here, how does it also work for characters?

I don't know the specifics, but tonics permanently boost a character's stats for the current incarnation. If you reincarnate, you lose the tonic bonuses. So, if you've finished getting all the skills, Evilities, and stored levels you want on your character and don't plan on reincarnating anymore, you can use tonics to max out stats.

On stat-boosting Innocents...
Merely having one in your item will provide a boost in whatever stat it affects that is equal to the level of the Innocent. (A lv50 Gladiator will boost the item's ATK by 50, a lv500 Marksman will raise its HIT by 500, and so forth...) This boost only applies for as long as the Innocents are actually stored inside the item though. Move them to another item, and the boost disappears.
However, if you kill an Item General/King/God in the Item World while having these Innocents stored inside the item, it will provide a permanent boost to the item's stat growth. I don't know exactly how big this boost is, but I do know that it relies solely on the number of Innocents stored in the item. What level they're on has no effect on this particular boost. (Meaning, if you want to get the highest possible boost, having 8 lv1 Gladiators stored in the item will be more efficient than having one lv19998 one.) Incidentally, killing the Item General, then gencying out of the Item World before going back in and killing him a second time will provide the stat-growth-boost twice, so assuming you've got Gency's Exits to spare, this would also be a good idea.

Whoops, after reading Starfish's post and rereading the question, I think I miscomprehended what you were asking, sorry

Starfish has it correct. I'll expand on the double-killing bosses bit: apparently, there is a bug in Disgaea 4 where you can infinitely kill item bosses to get the boss-kill bonus, as long as you have Gency's. In previous Disgaea games, you would only get the boss-kill bonus if you cleared a level and also killed a boss, leading to "only" getting 2 boss-kill bonuses per boss.

Not sure if you wanted to know this information as well, but character stat growth is based on lvl 1 base stats (stats without equipment). When you reincarnate, your character's lvl 1 stats are based on the base stats prior to reincarnation. It is possible to make your lvl 1 base stats go down if you repeatedly reincarnate at a lower level than the last time you reincarnated (i.e. reincarnate at lvl 500, then lvl 400, etc.), so, to avoid suboptimal stats, always reincarnate at an equal or higher level than the last time you reincarnated.

That's okay, I said it in a very roundabout way.

That is actually very interesting and, unfortunately, kind of destroys my ability to quickly do that with the way I've been stockpiling innocents. Oh well. I did figure out after posting this thread that innocents did influence this in some way, but I didn't know it was just when you kill bosses and the level of the innocent has nothing to do with the boost.

I'm also curious as to how stats are obtained when you level up. Namely, I'm wondering if anything at all outside of being a cabinet member has any influence on it.

Hey while I'm here, if you know of someone else who posts about how the bloody hell you get the 7th and 8th weapon skills in Chara World, point me to it. It's been driving me mad after I've gotten it all of twice on the about 40 trips to Chara World so far.

Characters can belong to multiple cabinet members' Evil Symbols, and it all stacks, so if you can configure your map so that one character belongs to them all, that's the optimal leveling setup.

The Old Combat Master is completely random when you clear all the Geo blocks on floor 10 and enter the Mystery Gate. The chance of seeing him is conjectured to be about 1/10; statistically, you're more likely to see dry spells than streaks.
