myskaros wrote:Character development in a setting I care about is good. I just didn't care about any of the human characters, and I didn't care about their connection with the BRS universe. Unfortunately, they forced me to care if I wanted to know what was going on in the BRS world, which was not something I really appreciated.

To me, the human relationships in the anime were like a bad soap opera, with all the complicated connections between characters and semi-ridiculous setup. The OVA only had a few characters, so it was able to focus on Matou's and Yomi's relationship, whereas the anime had some ridiculous drama with the inclusion of Kagari, Saya, and Yuu/Strength's mindfuck relationships. There's nothing wrong with the drama, I'm just not a fan, therefore I didn't enjoy the anime as much.

It probably does have at least a little to do with watching order. Since I saw the OVA first, I was expecting something closer to the OVA. All the additional elements in the anime didn't add anything for my viewing pleasure, so it ranked lower. If you saw the anime first and liked it, the OVA must have seemed pretty barebones. /shrug

I think for myself it probably wouldn't have mattered much if I watched the OVA first or not. Since I'm not all that into 'action' anyway. And yeah, the anime is full of MUCH more drama, but I like drama
One thing though, the OVA's end was pretty inconclusive and just pretty much hinted at a forever cycle. That's probably another thing that made the OVA not as interesting.

Either way, this game has nothing to do with either of those. Just everyone remember that going in. It's only borrowing BRS' design. That's really it. And I mean specifically Blackrock Shooter. All the other characters are original and there's no Mato.

The only thing that confused me about the anime and OVA was the setting. I thought that BRS took place in a post-apocalyptic world of some kind. Seeing BRS in a slice-of-life anime was.......weird. Not bad. Just weird. I liked the psychological bits but all I wanted in the end was action, good characters, and a decent story to tie them all together. So to me the anime wasn't bad. It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.

Since I'm trying to stay clean until the game (as clean as someone hyped for the game can be), I'm trying my best to stay away from a lot of images from the bosses.

That being said, I know from the trailer that they'll be interesting as all get out, and since we seem to just be circling around the same opinions of the anime, I wanted to see what you guys would come up with when asked this question:
If you could make DLC BRS bosses, what kind of enemies could you guys think of?
For instance: the anime had a half-play toy robot/cyborg crippled girl queen, then of course you have Strength and that scythe-wielding glasses-wearing devil girl in a wedding veil.

I thought of a kind of morbid one: "DLC Sleeping Beauty Boss".
It would be partly a test of attrition and partly a matter of timing.
The fight starts with BRS on her cycle slashing massive tubes of mechanical mutation that are reaching outwards from beyond the long road. With each slash the tubes begin receding into the ground with a quake. After a while of fending off lower enemies and hacking the tubes, all of the tubes throughout this area of the city cave in and erupt, knocking her off her cycle and into the air where the gamer gets a better look at the structure up ahead. It's a massive octopus-like abomination that had been leeching off of the ruined city and destroying anything living in the area, controlled by a seemingly catatonic girl floating within it's translucent head.
_Killing the boss would probably take a shooting sequence from the fall, then a run-n-gun sequence after landing on a tentacle, and finally a slashing sequence between whatever defenses were left and BRS as she worked to get at the dreaming girl unconsciously controlling the creature from inside.
It'd end with the dreaming killer waking up on the end of BRS's sword, finally free from her never-ending nightmare of chaos and pain. With that, the DLC boss ends on a bitter-sweet note (more bitter than sweet).

Heh...This is what I come up with when I have no games to play and I can't write.
Anyone else want to give it a shot?

Personally I really liked the anime and the OVA, both were really good especially for the over the top fight scenes. That and I adore Huke's art style XD (also why I have the BLK. Huke Selected Works. X3). In both cases though it was a lot of info to take in thats for sure. And some parts definitely NEVER got all that explained which was kinda annoying but was still good.

And after playing an imported BRS the Game BRP, you should not be disapointed :3

myskaros wrote:The problem is that the "source material" is a song and accompanying music video. There's no base continuity, so the OVA and the anime series weren't connected. I really liked the premise in the OVA, but the anime was overly confusing to me, which is probably because they tried to give the long series some depth when most people were just looking for battles between BRS characters.

The anime wasn't bad, by any means. However, I think a lot of people who watched the OVA first were disappointed or, like dood, had a hard time really getting into it.

I don't want to be a nazi or anything, but it's prolly worth noting that source material is actually a series of high quality drawings by Huke. The song and music video came later, when Supercell found the drawings and thought they were awesome enough to warrant a song.

All BRS media takes place in different continuities from each other; while this gives BRS media a lot of freedom it is a little annoying at times.

Personally, though I like both the OVA and anime, I think I like the anime better. Sure, it's confusing as hell at first, but it does all make sense later on, and the battle scenes are pretty epic.

Case in point, from the anime's final battle

Oooooh, reading that has gotten me so excited for it! I've heard the song that the Anime/OVA was inspired from, but that's about it. Regardless, will be picking this up as soon as it's out.

Wow I didn't know NIS picked this one up. I kind of like having game cases because my sister and I loan each other games so I don't care for only download releases but with Black Rock Shooter I guess I'll swallow that pill. I really hope there's cool bonus items and that maybe this game will be out by the time I finish Mugen Souls, I'm so excited. :D

I'm also hoping that it's still on track to release before the end of the year; it would be nice to have something to play after I'm done Mugen Souls (asides from Pokemon Black 2), since Code of Princess probably won't last me that long, and as good as Virtue's Last Reward is going to be, it won't scratch my RPG itch. I'm hoping for a November/December release!

We're not changing the game. There are just some issues that need handling, which is making the timing tough to pin down.

We might get an update about Black Rock Shooter: The Game soon. Two European video game oraganizations, PEGI and Germany’s Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle, updated their database with ratings for Black Rock Shooter: The Game.

It appears NIS America originally planned to release Black Rock Shooter: The Game in August. We still haven’t seen the title, but NIS America says they game is still in development and, at the very least, will be available as a PlayStation Store download.
