I kind of like the lack of moderation in random though. It feels like a big playground. ^^

I'll admit, we do have fun, but sometimes we (as a whole, or some individuals) can go too far with comments or material.

Pretty much. That kind of laissez-faire approach to moderation doesn't work in all cases, but I think it's turned out well on these forums.

I can think of one particular forum where laissez-faire only ends in tragedy...and death threats...and spamming pictures of another poster's wife...and bicep contests. Balla!

Well I guess we're just better people than your average Rube. It takes a lot of restraint to self-regulate.

Indeed. The Rubes are kind of low on the societal totem pole. The forums there are more or less a place to blow off steam instead of discussion like here. How else could you explain an entire region in this years Rube Brackets (NCAA regions have geographic names like "Midwest" or "South") getting the name "F YOU IPAD Region?"

This forum is no different from any other game forum. There're plenty of trolls, nerds, weeaboos, otakus, etc... as there are in the other forums. The only thing that makes this place different is the low level of "formal" moderation. If there was more aggressive moderation (like on Atlus), then his place wouldn't nearly be as "crazy" or "welcoming" as people would think.

It seems we can be trusted well enough to police ourselves, although I think it also has something to do with the fact there's actually no dedicated moderators either, so doing anything more than that gets difficult and starts detracting from doing their actual jobs.
