I recommended these in another thread, but here they are again:

A Universe from Nothing: Why There is Something Rather Than Nothing - Lawrence Krauss
The Infinity Puzzle: Quantum Field Theory and the Hunt for an Orderly Universe - Frank Close
The Road to Reality : A Complete Guide to the Laws of the Universe - Roger Penrose
The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory - Brian Green
The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time, and the Texture of Reality - Brian Greene

They are really good books, so if you see one around, pick it up ~ :33

Right now I'm reading Fringe-ology (the title's typed like that I believe).

If you're fascinated by the paranormal, and like philosophical books, then I'd definitely recommend it. I'm loving it so far. :P

Almost done reading The Red Pyramid. I have to say, after reading so much of Riordan's work, I've noticed a pattern in his all of his books, no matter what or which installment they are in a series. Most of the plot centers around some cataclysmic event that will happen in a few days, and the main character(s) manage to resolve the issue at just the last second. Always. They're still damn good books, don't get me wrong, but it feels a bit stale, especially since that's what basically every Percy Jackson book and Heroes of Olympus book is like so far. Not to mention what I'm reading now, The Kane Chronicles.

I'll move onto The Throne of Fire soon. This series is definitely interesting, even though I came into it with virtually no knowledge at all of Egyptian mythology. But I'm learning as I'm going along, as well as doing a bit of research myself.

While I was on vacation, I finished three books, all part of the same series - The Kane Chronicles. They are as follows:

The Red Pyramid

The Throne of Fire

The Serpent's Shadow

Overall, I really liked this series. The first book, however, was hard for me to get into. I went into these books without virtually any knowledge of Egyptian mythology, so naturally I was confused at first. It also moved way too quickly for me. I felt like I was losing track of what the hell was going on half the time. I almost didn't finish The Red Pyramid just because of the confusion I went through throughout the book. However, the second and third installments in the Kane Chronicles were much better, and that was mainly because by that point I had a firmer grasp on the mythology. The finale of the series was really captivating, and there were some truly great moments that put it up there with some of my favorite stories in books of all time.

Sadie Kane is also one of my all-time favorite characters ever. She's so awesome~ I love Carter too, but Sadie's personality and snarkiness makes me laugh so much. And when she's sad, mad, horrified, etc., I can almost feel it myself. She's such a loving person, but she'll never let it show, at least not in the conventional way xD

On another note, I've began reading another book called Shadow Zone, which I have mentioned above. 70 or so pages in, and I'm really interested. It's science-fiction, which I like. :)

I don't typically read much when writing as I spend most of my day squinting at and trying to court all the word-people vying for attention in my head. I think the last book I read was something about birds or chemistry. Though I have nearly extinguished all the books I own that I haven't read (not counting the boxes of books I left in the States some 800 miles away). So yeah.

Anyhow, has anyone read Water Margin, Outlaws of the Marsh, etc.? Etcetera not being used in the typical sense of "I don't know what else to list", but in the intended sense. Because I think two titles should be enough. It was the basis for the Suikoden series—which is a series every JRPG fan should have played by now. If not, shame on you; reproof and reproach.

It's (the book) one of the Four Great Classical Novels, a title which seems rather arbitrary but includes Water Margin, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Dream of the Red Chamber and Journey to the West. I don't think that alone means it's something you should read, but if you've any interest in Chinese history as rendered fiction I would give it a read. Not the best book around, but it's neat-o. Especially playing Suikoden after reading it.

Don't know if I've already suggested it here, but The Haunted Lands series is a must for any fantasy fan. It's centered around the Thayan nation, one whose power is seeded in necromancy. So there are zombies and all forms of undead everywhere, just chillin' and serving earl grey. I still have to look up grey versus gray. And I also really loathe zombies. But I'm disposed to Richard Lee Byers, and he tackles the nation and its many eldritch machinations so wonderfully that I'm inclined to suffer the zombies.

Speaking of Richard Lee Byers, he penned the first book in the War of the Spider Queen series (Dissolution), which is a romantic and thrilling account of drow society. The true drow, not some limp-wristed chaotic good outcast.

I've wanted to read Water Margin for a while, but as you all probably know by now, I'm terrible at actually getting stuff done.

Sorry for the double post, but I figured the thread deserved a bump rather than an edit~

Finished reading A Wizard of Earthsea last night. I had previously watched the Ghibli movie and the TV mini series, so I wanted to see what the book was like. Was a fun short read~ Now I need to find the second book in the series. :3

Finished the first Harry Potter book again. No matter how many times I read this series, it never gets old. :)

Dropped by the new library today (new insofar as I've moved). And aside from fawning over the sumptuous young Vietnamese librarian, I checked out:

Why Birds Sing by David Rothenburg
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Realms of Elves by Philip Athans
The Golden Warrior: the Life and Legend of Lawrence of Arabia by Lawrence James
Whatchamacallit by Danny Danziger and Mark McCrum

Oh, I also checked out a few graphic novels. "The Sandman", "The Last Unicorn" and one other. Don't know how to properly format graphic novel titles, and I'm too lazy to check right now.

I love it. x: Was actually just rereading it, though I haven't read The Salmon of Doubt yet.

And thanks, Radish! <3 It's Ami and Mami in one of their (many) crazy moments.

Just ordered 3 of the Mass Effect novels from Amazon. I should be reading through those in a couple weeks...I wonder if I should read them before or after I beat Mass Effect 3? :?

Read them after. I haven't read them myself, but I bet it'll be kinda spoiler-heavy.

Speaking of Bioware-related scrawling, anyone who's played Dragon Age should read The Stolen Throne. It's not impressive by any measure of fantasy writing, but it gives some of the tertiary characters a history that I found helped me appreciate the game (Origins) more.
