Eh... I was tempted to post in the current game again, but decided to reply to this here.

Sorry for posting, despite the fact I am not playing..

But when SO MANY OF US have each other on MSN or other means of communication, no PMing rules become useless.

I'd rather people didn't go behind my back like that. There's an honor system in Mafia for this kinda shit. Sure I'll never know if someone were to employ such methods, but it'll leave a bad taste in their mouth's should they do it.

I'm fairly certain most of you have figured out by now this is pretty much a bastard game, but please don't break it by using under hand tactics like that. You'd be nothing short of jerk if you did that.

Including a no PMing rule is useless, because people here are good friends, and talk to each other quite often. Sometimes even daily, it's nothing new-- which is why I am always surprised to see such a rule put in place-- when it should be common knowledge that it is hardly ever followed.

Really, now? Because I've never heard of such a thing, I doubt anyone else ever has as well. It's never left a bad taste in my mouth when I talk to my friends who just so happen to be playing in a game with a no PMing rule in place-- because it's the norm for me. Duh.

I know that rule doesn't ban normal communication, but normal communication can entail mafia talk-- in fact, 95% of the people I talk to on MSN... WILL talk about Mafia if the subject comes up. No PMing rule, or not.

Telling someone to get their ass in gear over MSN, or to check the thread every once in a while is another thing that I've seen-- quite often too.

Case in point: Stop being silly, because you are only fooling yourself, since you know it happens.. you just don't want to admit it.

Whenever a rule like that is in place, I am really dilligent about not speaking to other mafia players about what's going on. And tell other players as such when I see them doing it.

The point is, why should we assume that people are going to not follow a rule, and have that be the reason for not making the rule?

I'd like to think people would try to follow it. Sure, it's naive thinking, but I'd rather be naive than mistrusting of everyone.

I personally do avoid talking about mafia if there's a No PMs rule. Of course, it's the hardest rule to enforce. However I believe at least a decent percentage of the players will be following the rule, at least to a certain extend.

It's not that hard to not talk about mafia (besides joking around) outside the game. Just b/c some people are gossipy doesn't mean that it's allowed/encouraged (everyone's doing it, so I should too...)

I don't think an active mod is a bad thing, as long as he doesn't reveal obvious game related info. In practice, an active mod might let something slip, as much as arise more confusion (EO did this to me in his game). So... Analyzing what the mod says might go either way and should be done at your own risk. I only hate when the whole thread becomes spammed with the mod's RPing... or RPing in general...

Outsiders... Well, they don't have the same knowledge the mod got, so it's easier to ignore them. Aside of T4G. That guy was a headache.
