Another Nendoroid Bait and Switch?

Postby Taonas » Fri Jul 13, 2012 4:27 am

With the opening of Mugen Souls pre-orders, there is a top-tier edition that claims it comes with the three nendoroid petit set. Do you guys think this is legit this time? Unlike the disgaea 4 "show the petit artwork to get a lot of pre-orders and then say its not a nendoroid product" routine. I am a little leery since they are not advertising it as a Goodsmile Company Nendoroid Petit.

They actually stated last time it wasn't, I'm fairly sure. That, and I don't think they ever said in writing it was a nendoroid with regards to the Disgaea 4 set, whereas this time it very explicitly states they are.
There was even a footnote explaining the artbook. :|

Actually, we got specific confirmation from a staff member that Nendoroids were involved. "Nendoroid" is also a specific brand-name, I believe, that they probably couldn't use without permission.

In other words, I believe they're offering the same figures that Japan got.

On the subject of the Disgaea thing, I'm amazed that people actually thought that a $60 CE would come with a nendoroid, anyways...like Rednal said, there has already been confirmation that it is in fact, the nendoroid set

I am kinda jealouse, Mugen Souls get to have it's the Nendoroids and a hardcover artbook while Disgaea 4 did not get it's Nendoroid and got a softcover booklet, why does Mugen Souls get better treatment when Disgaea?

...I guess I should just be happy for the Mugen Souls fans, but I really hope this means NISA will do this for all their future game releases.

A set of nine figures, even fairly small ones, is pretty neat on its own. *Blinks*

Keep in mind, they have to have a balance of cost and all that... they mentioned that the Nendoroids are coming in the Japanaese box, so I *think* they might actually be leftovers from Japan that they decided to offer to us instead of getting rid of (or something). I don't mind at all, since it means we have a chance at what's usually a Japan-only item. XD

Honestly, I'm quite happy with a ten-figure set I can display, unlike an artbook.
It's the entire reason I imported the damn thing, making it my first import. 8-)

I STILL don't get the hate that the D4 Figures get ._.

They are of high quality and look great.

But, I think this is just because Mugen Souls came out later on. NISA probably is getting to the point where this sort of thing is possible, but in limited quantities.

And dependent on supplies from Japan. Though it's probably less-expensive to make one larger run than two smaller ones... Compile Heart might've also noticed that we like premium editions over here, so they may be intentionally creating more than they expect to need for Japan just so they can offer them to us... I hope...

Pretty sure it's just due to being compared to Nendos.

I've seen them called 'trash' 'pieces of junk', and various other phrases.

I have REAL pieces of junk. I was naive and bought figurines at a convention, without knowing what they were. The cheap ones. I've only got one figurine left from then that isn't broken in some way. I had about 15 of them. The majority are broken in so many ways that I just have them in a plastic bin till the day I glue them back together.

Those D4 Figurines, survived a cat (not mine own, she KNOWS not to get on the display thing) knocking them all over the place. The other figurines? Some more of them broke and the bin figs got buddies -_-

Plus, they even re-painted and everything the Fuka Figurine for us. The original wasn't nearly as good.

Ah well though. Some people just can't be pleased.

At least these will be the originals so those whiners don't have to make a peep.

Let's hope these sell out! Then hopefully NISA can start getting a little bolder with their LE's.

The Disgaea 4 thing wasn't a "bait and switch" - it was an honest mix-up that was quickly pointed out and fixed. We learned from that situation and are making sure to be very clear about our goods. Which means, what you see for this set is exactly what you get - the original Nendoroid Petite figures available in Japan, including their original box. That is all, mortals.

I am hoping that this new marketing LE's with the actual nendo petits will continue. I mean all of a sudden we get them now and I kinda have a feeling it might be due to two reasons. NISA is now headed up by the president of NIS who may have more clout with companies based in Japan (i.e. GoodSmile Co.) and the fact that GoodSmile Co. itself is actively pursuing the American market. (They started by offering the Cheerful Japan goods worldwide and now have officially opened a US-based website marketed towards the US.)

just my theories I.M.O.
