It's not just the disc either because I digitally downloaded the game and have experienced the random crashes as well.

Just had my first incident of any kind really in the Green Sea in chapter 11, I was just running up and attacking some enemies and my game just outright froze. Didn't kick me back or anything, had to force turn off my PS3. Though I dunno if my PS3 overheated or something, I had been playing for like 8 hours >.>;

I had 2 more crashes today.

Once while I was upgrading weapons in metallias hut and another while I was fighting the dark witch in the city ruins during chapter 10.

This is starting to make me not want to play until it's fixed. It's the most frustrating thing for me in any game when I lose progress due to something beyond my control like this.

Any further response from a NISA rep at this point? Seems to be an obvious and known issue, and I believe there are over thirty unique instances reported. Hoping for a fix to the issue before I begin working on this game myself, so just curious what the official word is at the moment.

This is just a guess, but I don't think we'll be seeing any info for a while. This isn't a very simple bug in the first place, seeing as how it can happen at literally any moment while playing. Combine that with the fact that NISA is a pretty small company, NIS also being involved in looking at and fixing the game, along with going through Sony to get a release date for the patch. It's definitely going to be a while. I'm guessing maybe a month or two until we even hear/read any updates about the status of the patch (not even the actual release of the patch).
At the very least, they know the problem exists and they're working on a solution. Not much else can be done at this point.

Got the black screen then back to XMB crash for the first time. Just grinding levels and gear out in Chapter 12. From what people are saying, it does seem to be related to Square button inputs though. Most accounts seem to have something going on that involves hitting square. Attacking, swapping facets, swapping weapons, in my case, it was spamming Tochka's.

This time was 5 minutes into playing, had sorted the items in inventory, and was scrolling through them. The only button being used was the down arrow.

For me this is the third time in 7 hours and 58 minutes of play time, I'm only in chapter 3.

I wonder though if it has to do with sorting items, something about it causes an error, and then it takes a little while to crash. I don't know. Seems to be within a time frame of dealing with the inventory.

Even though it's a known issue, I'm still going to post a comment every time it happens, in case something helps.

I've been experiencing the bug quite a few times and have sometimes lost hours of progress due to forgetting to save  .This bug seems to happen at random, the last time it happened to me, the only thing I was doing was dashing. Is there any word on a patch coming out for this game yet? Btw, my version of the game is a physical copy bought from the online store.

#4 Less then 2 minutes in. Chapter 3, started game up, went to world map, and kicked out while loading Chocolatta Palace for the first time.

Had the game crash upon selecting 'Quit Game' from PS3 XMB menu. After reboot, system was forced to scan for errors, rebooted, and was fine.

Played through part 1 of chapter 1 with Japanese audio and bgm set to a very low level.

As a note, the ps3 asked if I'd like to report the crash to Sony, which I did. So theoretically, SOA should have some sort of crash report or stack trace that hopefully can help locate the issue.

Okay, so I've been playing this on and off since I got it at launch. I've racked up like 30 hours since and I made it to Walpurgis in Chapter 6, Part 2. No crashes. I was at the area that you enter with the barrage of doors that need to be opened with the three statues on the unlock panel. I was hacking away, trying to kill the enemies surrounding one of the statues I needed. As soon as I hit a minor mook witch, the game booted me back to the XMB. Mind you, this is right after I beefed the hell out of my weapons, so the damage output could've been the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of a memory leak. This seems to be very likely considering Skyrim's PS3 port had a similar bug. I know you guys are still waiting on a response from SCEA, but I'd say try toying around with data compression and stuff if you can. It seems to be the most apparent factor in the crashes due to how much the game is doing. Also, on a sidenote, the boot occurred right after about 5 hours of play (constant, but with many savings in between), and my PS3 as well as my disc were both very hot. It only adds to the aforementioned theory.
I'll try going back into the game and reporting any further crashes/bugs.
Oh, and info:
Model: PS3 Slim 120GB model (from 2009)
Disc/Digital: Disc, from the Limited Edition (if that helps)
Other Notes: I've had other games crash before, but nothing too often. I think the last non-TWATHK crash was while playing Bayonetta.

Luckily for me NO bugs yet and on chapter four burning the midnight oil . Sorry to read that some of you guys are receiving difficulties with your copies. Idea; send those buggy copies back to the company with the receipts. If you can just buy A newer copy .....there's no reason why anyone of you should have to miss-out on A fun tittle like this!

Here's a random thought...has the game ever crashed during a cutscene for anyone?
First and foremost, I apologize for any trouble or offence I may wind up causing.
I know I'm a difficult person to deal with and can get very annoying.
And if I do get to that point, feel free to just ignore me.

#5
30 minutes in, chapter 4, going through Yaptolacca Ravine for a second time (left before because of good bonus items) to finish it, fantastic set of bonus items (There were several weapons and a new, at least to me, nicknamed shroud) all the way to 10, while working on level 7, booted back to the dash board.

Personally, I think that one sealed it. I think I'm to the point where I don't want to play the game anymore until it gets patched. On to something else I go.

Any more news on a possible patch for all this? I'm extremely skeptical of touching my copy until it's fixed--IF it gets fixed that is... :(
