Actually I'm a lot more worried about this: http://scrawlfx.com/2010/09/capcom-want ... -franchise

That is a concern but I think they can co-exist since RE is way different, if Capcom really wants to ditch a series I say get rid of Mega Man.

Haha, true. I prefer a few more Resident Evil games than another Megaman that's crappy (like this one that's coming out).

Not until I see Legends 3. I've been waiting for that game FOREVER. And, well, the way RE has gone has been terrible, I only liked 5 because of the co-op. Without it, it would have been worse than 4. And yeah, i'm also someone who didn't like 4 all that much. It was fun, but I consider it the worst of the series. With 5 being second worst. 2 was my favorite. Code Veronica was really fun as well.

I think I liked 5's storyline over 4's even if 5 wasn't the greatest game, but the co-op definitely saved 5 in my book. I don't know why a lot of people complained about it. They probably just didn't have a real person to play with because with another person it was awesome.

Co-op in RE5 was a fairly enjoyable experience.

I played through 5 by myself and I enjoyed it, the only thing I didn't like about 5 was the ending.

Agreed :) But it wasn't scary by any means :/

Ever since 4, RE has lost that ability.

Did RE ever have a coherent story? Its so full of holes and whatnot that I just kinda stopped caring about it. And I'm not even worried about what RE6 will be. Whatever happened to RE Portable that was announced like 2 years ago.

The ending was a bit out there for me as in 5. But them even including Wesker back in the game was a big plus for me.

As for the story, the main idea of it is what's intriguing to me. I can't think of any plot holes right now, but I am sure there are a bunch. 5's story wasn't as strong as previous editions, but I do find it a plus over 4. They just took it out of the world of RE for me and throw something new in it all together. Ick. Their idea to have it in Spain should have stayed with the ultimate creation of Devil May Cry as they felt their first try was too fair away from the resident evil series and I feel the second try at it was no better. However I do like the Devil May Cry series though I really need to finish one of them these days

And I agree that from 4 and up the horror factor has been slipping away. 5 tried to bring it back a bit, but it just wasn't the same. Before it used to be about suspense and seeing what was around the corner and now it's just hordes of enemies just attacking you leaving you in an area for way to long, when before it was like I have the get the hell out of here!

The scene in 2 where you run by a window and something quickly passes by and then you get the short cutscene that introduces the licker was brilliant IMO. Ever since that scene and because of it the Licker has been one of my favorite monsters. When they brought them back in 5 I did like the part where you had to walk by the glassed wall rooms with all the lickers waiting for them to bust free and then try to get into the elevator as quickly as possible. However when you get to that large underground dirt room with the catwalk and they all start charging you, well that was a bit much.

People should be warned that this whole thread is just full of spoilers

Yeah, I've actually found the RE series to be pretty good about clearing up its plot holes compared to other large franchises. I do wish they would go back to that suspense feeling. I really miss it

The RE games were scary? I never noticed, then again movies/video games don't scare me I might do a lil jump when I'm not really paying attention and there's some kind of loud noise but that's about it.

Well I have to say games where you can't fight back are scarier. Clock Tower 3 for one and Resident Evil 3 kinda falls under that category too as you really can't do much about the Nemesis until the end or the second playthrough.

But ya, not knowing what's behind a turn or when something pops out at you is scary. With RE4 and 5 they took that away.

Indeed. I wish we got 4 over here, but I probably should finish the others first lol.

If you haven't finished Fatal Frame 2, I suggest you start with that. It's the best Fatal Frame from all three localized.

Siren (The PS2 version) was a GREAT example of a game where you can't fight back, and was probably the scariest game I've ever played  I will never forget the scene where you're running from the principal shibito and he just seems to always pop up where you are out of nowhere. I will also never forget many more scary moments in that game. You NEVER feel safe in that game, except when you have a gun, but you BARELY get those weapons. Heck, you barely get weapons period. The PS3 remake still retains a lot of the scare factor, but gave the player too much power to fight back. Which reduced a lot of the scare factor. I don't know why people complained so much about the first one's weapon system. I found it perfect. Combat was a last resort, and your main priority was just escape and nothing else.
