The only enemies that require some caution are the military majini and the likers.

Those were probably the only basic enemies that I didn't go handgun only on. The only thing I hated about them was when they mutated into the giant blob and I didn't have any flash grenades on hand.

The platform boss? Or Excella at the end?

Just the regular military majini when their torso explodes into a giant mouth.

oh the pods that were in the ceiling and you wouldn't know which would break. Then if they got close to you they would just keep stabbing you to death and they probably just kept stabbing you afterwards too. They seemed like the type to do an overkill.

Whats so bad about the shooting aspects of the game? Its not like its an all out action shooter, its limited visibility and movement combined with tight spaces and corners make for some pretty great gameplay. Now if only they could return the scare level of the older games in the series whilst keeping the current gameplay that'd be great!

well for start it's supposed to be survival horror, and it's neither survival nor horror anymore.
The survival in survival horror = survivalism, not "oh I survived these monsters attacking me" it's making good use of limited resources and scouring for goods. Having a handy merchant every 10 feet to sell you a million bullets is not survivalism. The games are like Bear Grylls trekking from McDonalds to Burger King and hoping the last 20 cheeseburgers will tide him over til he walks those 10 feet.

Oh those things were the absolute worst. You could unload on that thing with just about the strongest weapons and it wouldn't make a difference. You had to be damn near perfect to hit those white spots.

XCronoX wrote:I wouldn't say RE4 & 5 take more skill to play, it's just the enemies take more bullets to kill.

Well there's just more ways to kill them in 4 and 5. A perfect head shot takes them out using very little ammo, you can stun them and just run away, melee them after taking precise shots, or just knife them to death.

Shizuka wrote:But the melees are more deadly. I rarely gun an enemy down. Ryo knows, I usually take one shot at the leg, and go behind the enemy and melee it. If the position isn't melee-able, I take another shot. I just try to headshot an enemy if the gun I'm using has a max critical upgrade (only few weapons have it) or if I'm using a rifle (I'm really good at it, but only at a good distance).

I usually shoot them in the face and then punch them, it almost always kills them. Sometimes they get up too quick and there's no time to perform a melee move on them when you shoot them in the leg.

spoonthehune wrote:RE4 and 5 enemies were pretty easy to kill imo. They were so easy to flinch. It was mostly just shoot to stun them, and then run up to do a melee attack, which made you invincible during the animation. Add to that the melee did splash damage so it would be harder for enemies to get a surround on you. And if the melee didn't kill them, it was seriously just one more bullet.

RE5, yes, way too easy, RE4...a little harder. There were a lot of enemies that you couldn't get close to or moved too fast in 4 to always melee.

XCronoX wrote:I hated those insect things(Reapers? I think the name is) if you didn't get the critical ohko shot they pretty much ohkoed you.

Oooh, I hate them! There's no melee move for them since they automatically kill you when you get too close, and that white spot on them only appears for 1 second and if you miss it goes away and all that mist comes out! It doesn't actually take a lot of hits to put them down but actually hitting them it annoying. And it seems like the white spot only appears when they're close enough to kill you.

Randomly in Desperate Escape there's one of those guys that is invincible, unfortunately he's the one that drops a key you need so you have to restart. No matter what you shoot him with or how many times you shoot he never opens up his mouth, he doesn't flints he just runs around until you restart. Otherwise those guys aren't that bad.

What I felt was missing from RE5 was the merchant. He was so cool I wanted him to be in 5 so bad! Overall 5 was way easier, it auto saves frequently (I miss the typewriters) and when you had to restart at a check point you had the option of selling items and rearranging your inventory, grabbing an extra spray, or whatever else you needed to complete the check point. Pro mode lets you use whatever ammo, weapons, and upgrades you collected in normal mode to complete it on professional, 4 made you restart from scratch as it was a separate save file.

As a movie character he might, read: MIGHT, be an interesting character.

As for the game, when I first ran into him he scared the shit out of me as I thought he was an enemy  But he just felt out of place. What is this merchant doing here? And why does he keep following me? And it's a survival horror. Shouldn't I be finding this stuff? Or even a boarded up weapons shop with a guy selling stuff at ridiculously high prices since the need is so much greater now.

I will say in 5 though the shop seemed even less realistic and easier, but for some reason I liked it more than the merchant.

I like the mysterious aura surrounding him, there didn't seem like a reason for him to be there but I think he's got a story, and I'd like to know what it is. Yeah it's survival horror and you should be finding your stuff not buying them. But he wasn't that frequent in the game and aside form the weapons you had to unlock you didn't have to purchase from him as every other weapon could be found. RE 5 disappointed me, if they weren't going to reuse the merchant then there wasn't a need for a shop cause having the option to buy up every time you die or complete a mission makes it too easy. I think he added a bit of strategy to the game, it was a nice touch for me. And if you really have a problem with him, then just play on professional mode, if you kill him on pro mode he's gone for the whole game! Had to learn that the hard way...
