Mhm. Co-op and PVP is so much damn fun.
I've been invaded three times now. (by players, not NPCs).
1. I was trying to clear the way to the boss, had my heavy weapon out, took a swing at the phantom, it connected and the phantom's health went down by a 1/3. Missed the next week and it was all over.
2. I was taking a break as I left my character sitting at the bonfire in human form. An easy kill for the phantom.
3. I was in a very poorly illuminated place in the game, near a bonfire and about to level up. Stoopid mage came out of nowhere and kept spamming pyro spells. Got me down to 1/10th, I healed and two-handed my weapon and took 3 swings at him, all of which had connected. Man-serpent sword + 15 = win. Damage is nice, so is the range & speed. Might upgrade it to a heavier hitting weapon before/during NG+.
The co-op feels really different from Demon's Souls. In DS, it was all about getting people to help you with bosses. Here, people are willing to help others to clear the whole dungeon as well as the boss(es). I was really worried about one area, so I summoned a warrior/mage hybrid who helped me get through over 2/3 of that dungeon. When we got to the boss, I summoned yet another guy and the three of us attempted to bring down that boss. I was the first to enter and almost got my ass handed to me on a silver platter. Thankfully, my buddies didn't take too long and managed to distract the boss before he could deliver the final hit. Overall, the fight was a lot easier than it would have been if I had solo'd the boss, but still it was intense and whole lot of fun.
I began DkS with the mindset that playing the game solo would be a much greater challenge, and while that is still true, the game is just so much more fun when played online. Haven't had any DC or lag problems either.
Oh, one of the starting gifts triggers something story related apparently. It's the
, if anyone wants to know. The director himself said that it's advised for people playing the game for the first time to get this as the starting gift. Just made it to the final dungeon, so I'll see what kind of effect it has tomorrow ~
