Oh dear. Now it's on in a manner not dissimilar to Donkey Kong.

Specifically, comic relief characters have never done me good. Look at me and NISA in Neptunia. They just seem unnecessary in stories altogether. It feels as if at times they exist to just put quirkiness, stupidity, and awkwardness in a world and when the world is built to be serious, it creates a jarring displacement from my immersion in a story. It applies to all characters that fit the mold, though Pipin happens to have the unfortunate additional awkwardness of looking ridiculous, much like NISA and because of that, one tapestry I have of FFF that I own that has him I refuse to display. He wasn't present in the pencil sketch too which makes it more aggravating and I pre-ordered it before the full art was displayed.

Huff huff.

Hubbawha?

In any case, she's not really any more "comic relief" than Compa, Gust, RED, Tekken, MAGES., Marvelous, or... a lot of other characters, actually. The entire cast is comic relief in some way.

No, but I'll put spoiler tags around it just in case.

Pippin is...

Spoiler:
A Fencer. :lol:
Yeah, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Pippin is probably one of the characters that gets the shaft more in the entire game, so I guess it's bad for people that like him/it (even after finishing the game I'm actually unsure...)

I guess he really is comic relief, then.

All your posts in this thread so far revolve around sex appeal, so I'm not sure you have a lot of room to talk.

Pippin is awesome and the game would be worse without him/her/it, straight up.

@Houk

What can I say? Given the scenario: babe vs. dork, I'll go for the babe. My other posts scattered across the forums imply at times comedy is not a successful story vector for me. I am aware I am an oddball.

Also in all of my random story drafts for the past 8 years have never featured a comedy relief character. Not since my grave incident with my buddies in a project we attempted called Glupoty ( Polish for antics/stupidity etc. ) for the IB program requirement CAS. God that was a huge mistake.

Have to say, I agree with Magician. There's a time and place for comedy and characters who only exist to yank laughs out of the audience are bound to have inappropriate moments. It's like Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea; a good game but Wadanohara's three dipstick friends can get lost for all I care. They keep ruining the atmosphere in otherwise very solemn or serious moments.

I can't speak for any other comic relief characters, but Pippin is god. I hope they make a sequel and Pippin is the main character and all of Pippin's friends show up and it's the Pippin & Pals show.

Maybe if only his dub actor is either some country folk dude or perhaps a proper English gentlemen then I'll give him some accolades.
