Another review: http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-reviews/460.html

The Good: Great music and a few well-voiced characters. Several interesting twists to new combat mechanic. Depth and presentation are highlights. Character interaction via conversation and Cosmospheres can be fun. Story has a few surprises.

The Bad: Lack of detail in the admittedly sharp graphics. Innovative gameplay attempts fall a little short. Parts of combat can be unreliable. Design focus on speed is questionable.

The Ugly: “No…no Finnel…shut up…stop talking…”

The scoring is rather bizarre. The range of scores throughout the categories is only 0.8/10. Story and characters don't fit into any of the scored categories, which is befuddling since these are the main selling points of the game. The text of the review seems reasonable enough however.

Complaints about control in battle seem to be a recurring theme in these reviews.

Actually, it sounds like he went into it with inflated expectations.

Yea of course when you go into something with a negative mind set anything that you create from it or take from it are going to be in a negative light.

From RPGamer's review:

Fortunately, once the game has been cleared, players can restart the game at various points, meaning it is possible to obtain the other endings without having to restart the game fully.

That sounds new. o.o

Yeah, I heard of that. But wouldn't that mean you miss out on a lot of talk topics (and thus screw yourself out of getting further into the Cosmospheres) due to skipping parts of the game?

yeah that seems HIGHLY likely as there has to be some draw back for skipping like 70% of the game to get a new ending  i cant stand leaving even 1 stone unturned in a JRPG...so i will not be using it unless i can see what talk topics i missed via some form of gallery and even then i doubt id use it.

...It seems like the reviewer really liked the sexual themes in the game.

Honestly, I'm against reviews like these for a simple reason: They're not only highly subjective (moreso than other reviews), but focus too much on certain parts of the game to critizice "because they didn't liked them", instead of "because they are flawed".

The reviewer does point out certain flaws and praises the game from time to time, but he seems too deep down the "this has underage girls stripping" hole, some of his complaints are hard to take seriously. Then, I saw "he" was a she. "Oh, it makes sense now", I told myself.

For what I've seen (and heard, for the matter), however, I can somewhat agree with her points regarding the battle system and, somewhat, the music. Then again, characters got praise, and that's one of the reasons I love Ar Tonelico, so that's that.

...In fact, now that I think of it, I'm surprised she didn't go out with the rampant "sexist" spouting oh-so-common these days.

I saw the score and the first paragraph and my heart sunk.

Then I saw this:
Sex has been a part of the Ar tonelico titles since their inception. In the first game, it was always there, but it was obfuscated, subtle, with much left up to the imagination. With the second entry, the sexual overtones became more and more obvious, bubbling to the surface. Now, Gust and NIS America have released the third entry of the series, and the sex is no longer an overtone - it's protrusive.

Oh boy...

underneath all the filth is a touching story that's worth experiencing if you've been following the series from the beginning

But you rated Story as one of the worst categories!

Really? I expected it to get something in that range. I would have been surprised if it got higher.
