Weekend Writing Warriors

Postby Lyner Barfless » Sun Apr 03, 2011 5:29 pm

Hey everyone!

Maybe I'm just really bored at this particular moment, but I was thinking of a fun idea to help flex my non-editing, creative writing muscles that can also help anyone here who wants to try their hand at some writing exercises.

It'd be a simple affair. Initially, I'll take requests for:
-Genre
-Context

And take 30 minutes or maybe an hour and just... write, based on the requests received. I guess an example helps.

"Hey Barfless, how about a zombie story (since those are totally not played out yet) set in a restaurant where a guy is planning to ask a girl to marry him?"

Then, if the idea is decent, the experiment begins. Here's where others come in -- IF people want, and only if, when I attach the document here, I can "pass" the story to someone else in the thread and they can continue it and "pass" it to someone else. This way you can get a long story written by several minds, or we can have weekly one-off snippits.

Sorry if something like this already existed here; I am tired and it is late after all...

Thoughts? Reactions? Food cravings?
Okay Detective Noire, whatever. We won't get anywhere with you leading this investigation.

How about a story where a girl fell in love with a zombie?

Why not a girl zombie falling in love with a vampire who's in love with a girl werewolf who's in love with a robot? Set in pre-history Rome? (Too specific?)

Not only zombies, I'd like something that borders vampire-hunters and darkstalkers.

How about a story about a couple international spies who accidentally ruin part of a neighboring country after failing an assignment?

a 40 year old man with a wife and three 3 children is at the bank, applying for a loan so that he can buy his daughter, who is about to turn 16, a car for her birthday. the man works a low-paying job that he's been at ever since he dropped out of high school and is in a lot of debt from using credit cards to pay the bills and buy the groceries, so naturally his credit report is pretty shitty and the bank declines his application for a loan. frustrated, the man pulls out a concealed gun and tries to rob the bank, when suddenly..... ZOMBIES! what do?

(it doesn't have to be zombies, you can replace "zombies" with pretty much anything if you want to)

Inspired by any true events? Any particular country?

Quite specific!

These two seem promising and they could even be combined... *sigh* Zombies... I remember when they were actually scary...

No, and a made up one, preferably. It's been my experience that creating your own country allows for more freedom since you can just tailor it to the needs of the story.

Actually that sounds a lot like your storyline in the NISA forum's official RP.
Or at least I like to think it's our official RP

@Lyner: I love the idea. It reminds me of those "continue this sentence" exercises we used to do in creative writing. Hmmm. How about a story in which an assistant undertaker is bestowed with the ability to resurrect a corpse every time s/he sneezes, and thus ZOMBIES. Once spring rolls around and his/her hay fever gets out of control, s/he accidentally raises his/her very own legion of the dead.

It's a biiiiit different than that. But you're right, it is the same kinda story. But I'm anxious to see how Lyner writes, knowing he's written a book and all.

I should probably get back on that RP, now that you mention it...

Well I wasn't going to say it but, yeah...

I'm also excited to see what you come up with, Mr. Barfless.
