He was talking about his parents. He always hinted that before the events of the game, he used to try very hard to find out who his real parents were (he even tried selling his soul to that soccubus girl or something for info). By the time the game begins, he's given up on finding out who they were.

If you talk to his adopted parents right before the final battle, it's implied that they tell him who the real ones are after the fight.

Eh... I don't think there really is any way to tell. While its IMPLIED they would tell him, we don't really know, as we're not shown anything that takes place after the storyline.

That and his DLC appearance doesn't really cover any of that... so its hard to say whether he knows or not.

EDIT: You know, what EXACTLY do the parents say again? I remember them implying it, as that was my understanding, but I don't remember exactly what they said at the time in terms of wording. Maybe that could shed a bit more light?

Pretty sad, if you think about it. How do you tell your son that not only are his parents his enemy, but also that he's a demon, something that not until too long ago he absolutely despised?I'm kinda glad that we didn't see that particular conversation and it's resulting Heroic BSOD.

I don't think it really fazed him at all though. As seen during the Disgaea 3 DLC event for him he complains about his peaceful lifestyle more and he seem to still seem to bettle hot blooded and ready for any fight that comes his way. Besides Adell has shown he can be clever it he wants to be so he could possibly have know is some way or form.

That, or we can assume since it's a cameo appearance and those typically negate things like character development (and since we're talking OFFSCREEN character development that we're just assuming happens, well), it just didn't happen.
