Little Princess is fan-translated? Perhaps NISA could get into contact with them, saves a lot of time? XSeed did it once or twice before.

The fan-translation isn't completely accurate ( or complete ) But it's very expansive. Actually I can only think of one thing that isn't in that fan translation, and that's an event with KnightSpawn ( the translation even covers NPC talk at various stages in the game revisited ).

That makes asking the fan-translators even more desirable. If NISA is okay with that, and want to bring one or more of the Marl Kingdom games over here, I think they should consider it.

Yes, the translation for "Little Princess - Marl Oukoku no Ningyou Hime 2" and "Tenshi no Present - Marl Oukoku Monogatari" is at gamefaqs, I have read though both and I liked the way they were writen.

I wonder if Houk or Lyner are reading these posts. I would really like to see what they think.

I can't speak for Lyner, but I personally know next to nothing about the series in general or this game and its fan-translation specifically. I imagine if our overlords here and at NIS-J really wanted to release these games in the US, the translation cost itself wouldn't be the thing holding it up, so I'm not sure how much of an influence a pre-existing translation (which would still have to be verified and edited as necessary) would have on a possible release.

NIS-J/A is not a company with infinite resources, and realistically I don't know how much modern market appeal these games have. But I don't make those decisions anyway, so my opinion doesn't really mean too much!

It would be a tough sell unless NISJ put all of the Marl games together in a collection, and then it would be hell on you guys to get all of them translated and released, not even knowing how well they'd sell. They'd be a bit of a tough sell to anyone that isn't a hardcore NIS fan, so you'd be selling on the premise of "three RPGs and a mahjong game in one title".

As much as I'd absolutely love to see them, it would be really hard to make it happen, and I'm painfully aware of that.

You're including the Marl-jong game?! Might as well include the Marl de Jigsaw while you're at it then.

Oh, just so I know/am refreshed, all the Marl Kingdom games are on Playstation 1, right? And the first two games are completely fan-translated?

No. The first game is The Puppet princess of the Marl Kingdom: The adventure of Puppet Princess ( also known as Rhapsody: A musical adventure. for ps1 and DS, the second game is The Puppet princess of the Marl Kingdom 2: Little Princess, for ps1, the third game is Angel's present: Marl Kingdom stories, for ps2.
Marl Jong is for ps1, and Marl de Jigsaw is for ps2.

*Snap* I knew I forgot one. I knew something was missing when I was typing that.

Anyway, you could probably get by without the mahjong or jigsaw puzzle titles, but they would never hurt to push a compilation in Japan and they won't take much translation effort here.

The only hard part about having them around would be the additional testing involved.

even if a compilation was made, there's no way NISA would localize it. that would be 4x the work for a single budget release! and if they run on emulation, they might not even be able to localize them! and who's to say Sony would even approve it anyway? why would anyone want a compilation for a series they've never even heard of? (that would be Sony's reasoning)

the chances of localization would probably be better if each game was fully remade and NOT sold in a compilation.

I'm about 300% sure Sony doesn't get a say in what series gets picked up. As far as I know, they're not the ones eating any of the costs. All they do is reap the benefits.

you're about 300% wrong

every PlayStation game has to be approved by Sony. SCEA in particular is notorious for rejecting games for stupid reasons. have you been living under a rock the last 16 years?

They reject games all the time, but as far as I know it's never been on the grounds of sales potential. It's always been stupid crap like "This game is all 2D, it needs some 3D" or "You're not dubbing it? It has to be on PSN then."

I highly doubt they'd ever stop a publisher from bringing over a series because they think it has no sales potential. The only series I can remember them ever really stopping up until a few years ago was Sakura Wars, and that was stopped for a completely different reason.

It being in 2D/having "substandard" or not being dubbed ties directly in to sales potential (in addition to perception/image). If a game has these things but has sales potential regardless of that, they're more likely to forgive it. But the Little Princess series isn't exactly a hot property with massive sales potential.
