Cool, I just made a thread about this earlier this morning. I'll just repost what I said in my thread, in Shizuka's thread...

Can we transfer our PS2 game saves to PS3 for use with "PS2 classics on PSN"? And for that matter, would trophies become retroactive for what we completed last gen?

Saves and trophies will most likely not be compatible with PS2 classics.

Yeah, I thought not. I don't feel like replaying my whole library to unlock or get credit for what I already accomplished. :? (Unless it's something short & fun a la Ico/SotC)

I've already played the crap out of GrimGrimoire, but I'll easily do it again because I love that game! But mostly I'd be getting games I wasn't able to play on the PS2, such as Odin Sphere. I got my PS2 at the end of it's life span and I only had it for a year before I gave it away and bought a PS3. So there ate quite a few PS2 games I never played. I hope NISA releases some of their older titles that haven't been ported such as the Atelier games. I really wanted to play Rouge Galaxy as well. I could spend all day with this.

There are so many great PS2 games that even though I have over 100 sitting on my shelf, there's easily another 100 or more great games I don't have. :D I am very pleased with this news obviously~ And hope their priced reasonably with a large amount added per month.

No it's a PSN exclusive, but whoever wrote the article blended everything together. The first set of titles in the second paragraph are PSN exclusive. The next set is PS2 titles (the rare games).

The PS2 games are in their original form. These aren’t remasters, and therefore won’t have Trophy support. But they retain their original gameplay, look, and charm through and through.

Charm? The graphics look like shit! I'd rather have trophies!

Anyways, I'm glad we're at least getting the option to play these games again. Even I'll have to get a new PS3 that doesn't have PS2 compatibility.

The best way to play old games like these would be to have two TV's, one old school and one HD for new games. ;)

I prefer physical copies of my games....

what WOULD be cool is an firmware update that allows you to play PS2 disc and as these classics come out there will an update to add trophies to even your disc versions.

Wasn't it a chip that let the first set of PS3s to play PS2 games and wasn't it expensive?

Not that I've ever heard. What I hear is they can play most PS2 games on the 40, 60 and 80 GB I think it was models but they were much more likely to get the yellow light.
