Capcom's really working hard to get its fans back...

Either way, I hope this works out very well for them !

Sweet. But with Capcom also publishing the game, that means less money going over to the devs themselves. Hmm.

Re: Nyu Media (update: Satazius released)

Postby LAMV » Mon Dec 19, 2011 2:34 pm

I wasn't sure whether to bump this or to post this in General Chat's General Chat, but I choose to bump this.

The first of Nyu-Media's localizations, Satazius, is out on Steam and GamersGate. It costs $5.99. But here is some bad news:

1. Nyu-Media isn't mentioned anywhere in Steam's and GamersGate's game descriptions despite the fact that they are the ones responsible for the localization. They don't even link to Nyu-Media's site. Nice job taking the credit, Capcom.

2. The game has DRM. SecuROM. I can't help but think Capcom has to do with that.

EDIT: According to Steam forums, the SecuROM listing is a mistake. Nyu-Media confirmed (via e-mail by one of the users) that there is NO DRM.

that is pretty disheartening...we can only hope steam says 'NO' to the other games, and they get released via better avenues. And Nyu-media actually gets credit.

EDIT
And of course we hope that Stazius does well.

I learned from somewhere something troubling. Apparently they changed the names of the characters (and probably locations) in that Comedy Club VN-like game. Specifically, they "westernized" them. That's overlocalization; I thought we were through with that? Anyway, I asked/complained about it to Nyu-Media. I don't believe in "westernizing" like this, and I'm afraid they may have done it with the other games.

Their e-mail is info(at)nyu-media(dot)com if you guys want to ask about other stuff.

Well, I don't know if it's Capcom or Nyu-Media itself, though.

By the way, check my bolded edit in the previous page. There isn't SecuROM after all. It was a listing mistake.

That's good to know, but the westernization thing is a problem if it's true. I sent them a tweet about it.

If it is being westernized, you can bet it's Capcom.

Yeah, I'm starting to wonder if them partnering up with Capcom was a mistake.

I hope my e-mail was okay, I think I was being a little mean/incoherent, but I wanted to get out my opinion quickly before they release more games.

EDIT: Where do you find twits on Nyu-Media? I've never used Twitter. Wondering if other people said something.

http://twitter.com/#!/nyumedia
And then just 'follow' them

EDIT
AH, you mean how do you find who tweeted to them? Search 'nyumedia', then you can see who tweeted to them.

They responded to my e-mail, here's their response:

Thanks for taking the time to get in contact and voice your concern directly.

You are correct - we did change the names of the characters in CTHCC to localized versions. The reason we made this very conscious and deliberated choice is because there is a something of a trade-off between authenticity and accessibility when the game is very Japanese, as this is. Ultimately, we decided for the sake of the game and for the developer to make the game as accessible to as many gamers as possible and follow the 'Ace Attorney' model of localization and localize as much as was reasonably possible.

Of course, this makes for some odd situations when the setting of the game is Japanese(!), but we feel it adds to the quirkiness of the title. In the end, it will be people like you who decide if we made the right choice, but this is the route we felt was best all around and committed to. I have no doubt I will have to justify this a lot from here out!

I hope this does not put you off supporting and enjoying the game.

Sincerely,

Seon King

Ugh. Looks like they're not going to budge from it.

This is troubling. I do want to play their games, but buying the game means supporting their overlocalizations. What do I do?

That sucks...

Why can't some of these publishers realize that not everyone is some racist ignorant bigot who lives in this country?

I'm so tried of this crap...The game looks fun, but like you said, supporting this kind of stuff is just...>_<

I really thought we were past this by now

^ I'll just avoid buying it for now. At least it's not out yet and no release date announced. There's still time for them to change their minds. Maybe.

You could try tweeting or e-mailing them, too, you or others could probably put a stronger argument than I could. The only thing I can do is respond expressing my disappointment.

EDIT: Oh, we shouldn't forget how many niche JRPG sell despite (or because of?) retaining the original names and locations. And Recettear was probably the first doujin game to be officially released in english (names and locations are retained, although a few jokes were changed obviously) and that sparked many doujin games releasing here.

I don't even know where to begin with the amount of doujin games released in English. But I still support consistency in naming, regardless.
