Which Disgaea game should I play?

Hey guys, I just bought Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero, and I like it. I really want to get into the Disgaea series because I love it's charm. The diologue is very witty and the voice acting is spectacular. However, I'm not sure where to start. The other games (besides infinite) are strategy games, correct? Do they follow a single plot or can I just pick a game and run with it? Which would you recommend for someone who doesn't play strategy games often (I think the last turn based game I played was Mario and Luigi: superstar saga, haha)?

Also, do the games have voice acting like Prinny did? And comedy? Thanks.

I'd recommend Disgaea 4. It's got the most perfected gameplay out of all of them, until Absence of Detention for the Vita comes out of course.

If you're planning to play multiple ones, I'd go with Disgaea 2 Dark Hero Days first. Otherwise it might feel like a major downgrade going from 4 to 2. 2's still a great game to be sure, it's just that 4 has improvements.

If you're willing to try out the most archaic of the games, then check out Disgaea Afternoon of Darkness first. IT's still really fun, but it's kinda slow-paced, and retains a lot of stuff that was phased out in the newer titles.

Yeah, I would have to say play from the first one through! Love the characters from the beginning and listen to all the wonderful tracks.

I'd just start with the beginning and play them in order.

That way you can see how much the series has developed.

Theyre all really good but to understand the cameos later in the series, youd have to play the first game. My personal favorite though was disgaea 2. After you play at least 1, you should play 2 and 3, but if you cant, i'd just skip to 4.

If the dialog and voice acting are what you enjoyed the most, definitely start from 1 and just work your way up. 1 and 2 both have PSP ports, then 3 and 4 are on the PS3. Backtracking will be slightly painful since each game improves on the gameplay, and yes, the cameos make more sense if you play the previous games first, however each game does have a distinct story that is independent of the others.
