I watched the first episode and am I missing something that happened between Bakemonogatari and Nisemonogatari?

No, you didn't miss anything. The events aren't all happening in chronological order (aside from the fact that they are all after the events of Bake), it will make sense over the next couple episodes.

I mean, I spent most of that scene trying to tell if it really was Sakamoto Maaya or not, so I wasn't terribly bothered >.> it *almost* sounds like Hirano Aya, but that could just be me mentally imposing the impression since I know she's her (true form) voice in Kizu.

It also seems that arcs are much longer this time around.

Judging by the generic plot of the Nisemonogatari novels, where it's just "about" the Fire Sisters, I would expect longer arcs.

Episode 5 ~
Karen is pushing her way to the top, and may just dethrone Mayoi. Which I never thought possible. Course, if I see more Mayoi, that may change. Still, she's my second-favorite character now for sure ~

A much tamer solution than I had entertained xD, but still, it's gotta be really embarrassing for Karen. I wonder how they're going to deal with this Kaiki bloke? He needs much more than a punch in the face. How about a complete bankrupting? Like, even all his materials and stuff? I dunno, but I hope the guy gets his by the end of this season >_<

Bakemonogatari is one of my favorite animes to date and I really can't wait to see this. I'll be watching it later tonight. I actually got out of anime but I'll watch this.
