And would it have been so hard to put Sold out instead of Closed on the website? Closed implies they stopped for reasons aside from stock issues.

vampko wrote:Well, this is an industry rule with Niche games. Just keep it in mind in the future, and your experience should be better next time ~

What Vampko said. ALL of those games, have a limited 'first print' (like Darkness, Bulletstorm, and Battlefield) but AAA games have a HUGE first print compared to these sort of games. Better sellers compared to niche stuff. Also, for games like Arkham City, sometimes stores order way too many LEs for a game and then they sit on shelves forever. Or, in a case of Gamestop, people cancel their orders, thus having a surplus of limiteds sitting around.

With niche games like this, many of us are BIG into collecting, or just plain like soundtrack/artbook bonuses. When they mean limited, they really ARE limited. So yes, stock IS an issue when it comes to these games. I've seen a few Nisa games sell out before preorders ended. Since these are in limited runs, they can only make so many, and then that's it! AAA games are different, assuming alot of people will buy them :/ Some do, but not many. The only thing Nisa DID print a large number of LEs for, was Disgaea 4, for their biggest name title. In that case, I'm sure ALOT more got printed, compared to MK2.

I guess this is what I get for becoming so detached to the Limited aspect of the LE... and while it seems so obvious now, taking a step back, but while playing HDN, the thought that it was a niche title subject to all that comes with that never crossed my mind, I was having too much fun with it. Oh well, I'll just have to jump onto the LE of next game Nisa makes that plays like HDN and MK2 at the word go like it was the last copy in existance!

As an Australian consumer, I've had a lot of first hand exposure to limited/collector's edition being limited amounts. While living in Australia it's all too common to find out about a limited edition coming out, to contact EB Games and be told that they only had a small amount of copies of the game sent to them for sale per store, and typically if you didn't preorder the regular edition, and be of the first X amount of people to be contacted by them on the first day of the LE being announced so they'd give you the option to upgrade, you were SOL.

(I'm staring directly at you Actizzard when I say that in relation to the various WoW expansions)

In comparison, after moving to the US I found myself tripping over Limited Editions of the same games that were all but impossible to get back home...

The entire thing has been made even more of a joke by the digital 'limited/collectors' editions where years later you can pay money to upgrade.

*cough* Enough diverging. Yay! Looks like my account has been charged for the preorder.

Slipped in on Monday night, right before preorders closed. I was leaning against it based on prior experiences, but some gameplay videos convinced me that enough improvements were made to the sequel to make it worth a shot. I like playing cards and soundtracks a lot, but the actual game needs to be decent first. Niche games are hard to predict- I've regretted a few purchases and regretted passing up on a few that were never reprinted.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 is coming out at the same time, so I'll probably be juggling games- but I had to secure the game first in order to play it.

edit: forgot to use a coupon code from last year that expires in 2 weeks.

Bah! I can't believe I hadn't posted in this thread yet...

Meh, since most ALREADY know it's probably pointless but-- My sister and I each pre-ordered a copy of the LE around a day after pre-orders were open.

I'm going to trade in some games Friday. Think I'll pre-order it if you pre-order that close to release that way I can pick it up after it comes out.

Just as a warning when preordering REALLY close to the date: just hope there will be enough copies. Don't forget, it's not a game that gets that many copies, and although you are preordering, it's too late to have one specifically for you put aside. Gamestops don't get in many copies from companies like Nisa, so usually it's just however many people preordered and maybe one or two extras (the extras are always there for people who preorder super late, when shipment is on the way, and to sell to non-preorders).

So true. I was actually floored when GameStop had HDN in stock. Of course it was only one copy...

They didn't give you the used one off the wall did they and tell you to pay full price. I hate when they do that. Well I pre-ordered mine today, got $31 for my 3 games plus a little bit on my gamestop card. I can't wait to play it. :D
