Death Carnival (WIP) (Name subject to change)

Current Map

I've got to finish up the map, and the rules may change by the time I choose to start this, but I wanted to gauge interest first, so please sign up if you're interested. This will likely not be starting for a while. But, remember, time is not very stable to myself. So, 'a while' may be your 'short'. It could actually be a 'while' though.

Story :
Spoiler:
it's one day till all the exchange students in class A3 have to leave back to their home countries. Ishiguro, the homeroom teacher, got together a farewell party to be held for the international students. There's Kevin Smith from Canada, Kongyan Wang from Hong Kong, Zach Ossander from New Zealand, Yuri Asamov from Russia, and Steve Taylor from America. Only some of the classmates came (the ones who grew very close with the international students). Tsubaki Ishiguro, Sayuri Saruwatari, Mimei Shi (she was born in China, but her family moved to Japan shortly after, and she is just as Japanese as a native born would be), and Shigehito Fujiwara, who brought his younger brother Junichiro with him. Thus, the scene unfolds...
Ishiguro-sensei : How is everyone enjoying themselves?
Kevin T: This party is great!
Kongyan : I am very grateful for your hospitality.
Yuri : This has been a very intriguing experience.
Kevin S : I'm just glad Mimei-chan didn't pull anything!
Sayuri : You might want to retract that statement.
Tsubaki : Aww, Sayuri, there's no reason to say that. Mimei wouldn't try and scare him on his last night here. *laughs*
Zach : She doesn't even have to try to scare him! *Bellowing laughter*
Mimei : *Pops up behind Zach* You shouldn't say mean things about people to their face
Zach : *Jumps forward* Aiieee! Don't do that Mimei-chan!
Shigehito : Looks like Zach-san isn't much different! *chuckles*
Junichiro : *hiding behind Shigehito* That was scary..
Sayuri : You scared poor Junichiro...
Mimei : Sorry *bows*
Junichiro : I-it's okay. Zach-san was being a jerk, and he deserved it.
Zach : Even Shigehito's little bro is making fun of me!?
Everyone, except Zach : *laughs*
Ishiguro : It really has been a great two years. It's too bad you all have to go home tomorrow.
Kevin T : i'll never forget the time I spent at this school. And especially the time I spent with you all. Thank you very much for taking care of us. *Bows*
Kongyan : It has been a very invigorating experience, and I have learned many new things. Thank you very much *Bows*
Yuri : There is nothing more worthwhile than pursuing knowledge, and when that knowledge is accompanied by equally intelligent people, except Zach-san, that makes it all the better! *bows*
Zach : *mock scowls at Yuri* It's been a great experience for me as well. I can't wait to tell all the people back home about this place and you guys!
Kevin S : When I was told about the chance to make it into this exchange program, I almost turned it down, afraid that I would be passed over for much better people. But, a friend I knew convinced me to give it a go. Because of that friend I got to meet so many great people, and learn so much that I could never have learned back home. I think Mimei's constant teasing of me also gave me the courage to deal with scary things better. Thank you everyone! *bows*
Tsubaki : It was our pleasure!
Shigehito : Make sure you keep in touch when you go home.
Sayuri : It's too bad there isn't some way for all of us to make sure we stay friends forever...
Ishiguro : It's going to be lonely not seeing you five in those seats.
Mimei : Everyone, there's actually a way that we can make sure we stay friends forever. *pulls out a strange looking candle*
Kevin S : Oh no...Mimei-chan has another strange ritual...*gulps*
Everyone stares at the candle.
Kongwan : So, what are you planning to have us do? Light the candle all at once?
Mimei : Something like that.
Sayuri : What will that do?
Tsubaki : It sounds like a great idea!
Yuri : It seems like a waste of time, but I'll consider it a favor for Mimei-chan.
Kevin T : It can't hurt to do a charm.
Junichiro : Big brother, is it okay if I do it too?
Shigehito : Of course it is
Mimei : he's right, you're just as much a part of this group as Shige or Kongyan
Everyone else nods affirmatively.
Junichiro : *smiles* Okay!
Ishiguro : Then I'll just let you kids do this.
Zach : You're not running away from this are you? *laughs*
Tsubaki : You're also a part of this group Ishiguro-sensei!
Sayuri : She's right, you've been our homeroom teacher the whole time, and it wouldn't be the same if you weren't doing it too!
Everyone else nods affirmatively.
Ishiguro : I normally don't deal with these sort of things, but for you guys I would be glad to join in!
Mimei : Alright. Now, everyone, get in a circle surrounding me.
Everyone gets in a circle
Mimei : Now, when I light this candle, everyone needs to put their right hand out towards the candle and say, "A3 has arrived home." Make sure to only state it once. And don't touch the fire. After this charm, we should forever be able to remain friends no matter what happens.
Kevin S : This sounds pretty creepy...
Kongyan : It'll be fine, it's just a simple charm.
Mimei : Alright everyone, on the count of three. One,
Everyone nervously clenched their right fist.
Mimei : Two,
Kevin S and Zach began shaking a bit.
Mimei : Three! *lights candle*
Everyone reached in their right hand and stated "A3's arrived home."
Nothing happened.
Mimei : Alright! The charm's over!
Kevin : *lets out a big sigh* Wow...I thought something would happen...
Sayuri : It's pretty obvious nothing would happen. It's just a charm after all.
Tsubaki : But, now we can remember this silly moment we had together, whenever we start to forget that we were friends, and that way we'll always be friends! *smiles*
"AAAAAAAGH!!!" A bloodcurdling scream echoed throughout the building.
Ishiguro : What was that!? *Runs towards the door only to get shot back by some sort of force.
Suddenly, a dark shadow appears in the middle of the room where the candle was lit.
Shadow : Welcome Home...
Bespectacled Girl : Is that...Sayuri-san!? *runs up to Sayuri, tears flowing from her eyes*
Mimei : What's wrong Aiko-san?
Aiko : This place is insane! You exit the room you're in and suddenly you're in this really creepy and old looking hallway. And there are doors which you can't open unless you have some sort of item! And when you do open a door, you go into a totally random place! I've even walked through a door only to be on a roof all of sudden! This place is pure insanity! And *hugs Sayuri leaning in close to whisper* Our classmates are killing each other...
Tsubaki : *stares, and tries to hear what was just said*
Mimei : *lets go of Aiko* What did you just say? They're killing each other?
Aiko : I don't know, I just know that something is very wrong with this place. Do you even know why we're here?
Sayuri : Well, it's most likely because of the charm that we performed
Aiko : Charm?
Mimei : Everyone! We need to get moving now! That shadow is going to kill us all! *starts running towards the only door and everyone follows*


The Objective of the game is to escape. The game ends when no one is left standing in the building. Whether that's by everyone getting killed, everyone escaping, or only a few escaping. That's when the game ends.


Actions
Spoiler:
Each round every player will get one turn. During this turn, the player can choose to do one of three things : Explore, attempt a murder, or move to another room. If the player moves to another room, they can choose to leave behind a message for other players that enter the room. If you choose to do so, you PM me the message. And I'll make sure to show the PM to anyone who enters the room from that point on.


Murders and Sanity

Now the reason why you might murder someone (and keep in mind you don't have to attempt murdering player characters right away, there are NPCs which will be scattered throughout the area in different rooms) is when you successfully murder someone, you get some of your sanity back. If you fail a murder check, you will lose a hit point and a sanity point.

The reason one might want to make sure they retain their sanity, is when you lose your sanity, you become 'insane'. During this period you will automatically attempt to kill any player in the same room as yourself, or an NPC if no players are available. If there are no players or NPCs in the room, you will actively search for them. You cannot tell any players that you are currently insane. Now, if you fail a murder attempt while Insane, you will die. It's all or nothing at that point. So, this is why you would take the initiative to regain your sanity. If you kill someone while insane, you gain back 2 sanity points, versus the one.


Exploring
Spoiler:
When you choose to explore a room, you are risking the chance of an 'event', but at the same time you cannot escape without searching. There are certain required items that will be hidden throughout that will be needed to escape. There are not duplicates, so this might be another reason why you would murder someone, to get the item they have.


Communication
Spoiler:
Players can freely communicate with people who are in the same room, but not with players in a different room. There will be a special Chat set up for people when they're in the same room. At the very first round, everyone will be in the same room (unless I get more than 10 sign-ups, then there will be some people starting in different rooms) These might be QT's, or something else. I haven't figured this one out. But, in-thread discussion will not happen except for me to post stuff.
Note : This section will likely be changed greatly before the game actually starts


Death
Spoiler:
When a player is dead, that may not necessarily be the time for them to stop playing. That's all i will say on that.


Navigation
Spoiler:
I will have a map set up that will slowly get revealed as people explore. The map will always be in the first post, and I will post the updated map as it gets updated. This means that if any person navigates to a room, the map will then show that room. But, only the person who went in will know what's in there.


Events
Spoiler:
When you enter a room, or travel through a hallway, there is a chance you will experience an 'Event'. You also have a small chance at experiencing an 'Event' when exploring a room. These 'Events' can do numerous things, none of them good. You don't want to experience an 'Event'. The most common thing associated with 'Events' is a loss of sanity.


Character Status
Spoiler:
Every character has a Max HP (Health Points), and a Max SP (Sanity Points). At the very beginning everyone will have a maxed out Sanity. Which means everyone will be able to resist two 'Events' before their sanity begins depleting. If a player's HP goes to 0, they will die. There might be other effects that aren't listed here as well ;)


I believe that's everything I"ve thought of for now. And there will be roles which have weaknesses/strengths. The biggest obstacle to starting this game is having enough people sign up, and the second biggest one is getting the map all laid out. The next post will be reserved to have a player list and other stuff.

Please sign up, and feel free to make suggestions to try and improve this, as I'm still working out the kinks a lot.

I'd also like to know where some of the ideas came from, if I may. Items, for instance. You mentioned that you might like to incorporate an inventory system into a game when you signed up for my mafia party. So, I wondered if the work went into this.

Ideas came from a lot of places. What really sparked the drive to do this was Kota talking on TS about various themed Mafia games and what characters would do what. And Since I've been playing Corpse Party recently, that greatly influenced it.

That thing about inventory is something I might think about in some way for a future mafia game, but this is something completely different. I really need to figure out how to work communication, since it's essential that everyone doesn't just post everything for everyone to see. But I really don't have the PM space to set up a PM place for every instance. At this moment it would involve making a QT every time, but I wonder if setting up chat rooms for different rooms might work better? Thankfully, once I get everything ironed out, and the Map made, it will be relatively simplistic to run.

The complexities should only really affect me. It should turn out to be pretty simple for yourself once it gets going. But I'll work on making sure it's not too complicating for players. Thank you for signing up ~

Also, I realize that first scene was pretty bad, but I just needed to get it done so that I could start to garner up some interest. The actual scenes that will be written out and stuff I will make sure to be of the best quality I can manage.

Well, play your character however you want, but I am sending out roles to those who play. Only because those roles have certain abilities/stuff and just having people choose their character might...Meh. I'll let people choose which characters they want, but I'll use a random gen to determine the order people can pick their characters. Of course, I'm not revealing the roles to anyone. You only have the dialogue that led up to the start of the game to clue you in to things. If I somehow get more than 10 participants, then I will create more dialogue to give a feeling of the other characters.
