Can someone explain the characters to me?

And what they Parody? (Compa = parody of Pac-Man?) I saw somewhere that there were 13 characters in the last game, so exactly which Characters are playable and what's the whole relationship between CPU's and everyone else. I'm not sure if this will all be explained during in the second game so I want to know just in case.

Compa is compile heart the game dev. Iffy is idea factory, cave chan is cave, falcom is... Falcom? I forget the name of the company, the dudes who make Ys. The goddesses are their respective current gen consoles (pretend sega still made them for nep) their sisters are current gen portables (ditto for nep). Nisa is NIS/NISA.

Sorry if this is all so duh, but thats it, not pacman or donkeykong or whatever.

Ah alright thanks. I read a review that gave me the impression they were what they were based on their outfits. Like Nep has the gamepad, Compa had a Pac-Man looking headband and belt .-. Thanks for the explanation though. I knew nepgear was based off the sega but I wasn't sure if it was just specifically consoles and companies or if characters were included too.

It's been a while since i played HDN 1 and i havent gotten HDN 2 yet so I'll do my best.

CPU's:
Neptune/Purple Heart: Named after the Sega system "codename: Neptune" that never was made though was supposed to be competing with XBox, Wii, PS, etc.
Noir/Black Heart: Named after the playstation and Sony in general.
Blanc/White Heart : Named after the Wii and Nintendo in general.
Vert/Green Heart: Named after The XBox, and Microsoft in general.

Note: all there realms reflect the systems and companies. Lastation is very "steampunky", Lawee is very almost kiddie amusment park looking with a lot of over the top cutness, and Leanbox is very high fantasy, also Pleneptune is said to be the most technologically advanced.

Supporting characters:
Arfoire: named after the R4 memory card usually used for pirating games.
Compa: named after Compile Heart the company that made HDN 1, generally Moe games thus why she is made to be such a Moe character
IF: Named after IF, the company that designs primarily phone based games thus why she has so many phones
Nisa: Named after NIS (the company) and reflects this in her flatness and offense she takes in being called flat, as well as her drive to be the "hero of gameindustri".
Gust: Named after the game company Gust and is reflected in her alchemy and overall appearance that reflects the Atelier games.
5pb: A company that does game manufacturing and music label for both games and anime, thus why she is the music diva looking character
Red Heart: Red Entertainment
Histoire: This could be any number of things not exactly sure which though.

Relationships:
-All CPU's are rather indifferent to one another and all especially so towards Neptune although after a while in HDN 1 they will maybe join you.
-IF, and Compa are both friends of Neptune and aid her along her journey to save Gameindustri. They are also eventually aided by NISA and Gust though they only play support roles and bit parts rather then a large overarching portion of the game.
-Arfoire and Historie are both parts of the same Goddess though dont see eye to eye on things involving how they want to act on the world of Gameindustri

Im pretty sure the goddesses only represent the current gen moreso than their lineup. Because if they represented the lineup, blanc would be older, vert would be younger, vert wouldnt neccesarily have heat issues, noir wouldnt "do everything", blanc wouldnt have the "kid friendly" image (her behaviour is bad but her land is kiddy), etc.

Haha i felt the same way, i honestly didn't even know the reference till yesterday when my friend who was borrowing my copy of HDN1 told me about it. Though to be fair until then i also didn't even know what an R4 was XD.

Ram & Rom = DS Lite(their staffs are actually a stylus, and their suits are named Dee-sess Light or something to that effect)

The funny thing about this one, was that when MKII news started popping up, I thought "Nepgear" was supposed to be a play on "NGP", since that got announced around the same time...

I still wonder why PSP became "Uni" though? Is that just in relation to it having one screen?

Heck, no. It's the codename they used for a Mega Drive + 32X hybrid console that was never released since the 32X failed miserably. It's also why Nepgear represents the Game Gear, they're from around the same time.

EDIT: though in canon (if we can call it that) Neptune is a completely different console unrelated to Sega, and something that looks several generations ahead =P (do we have the specs for the Nepgear?)
