Spoiler:
Yeah, no one on GameFAQs, including myself, can seem to figure out just why the hell he went blind in the first place. He didn't even act like it.
Waiting on the other mk2 avatars.

I posted somewhere on MAL, it's just my hunch.

Spoiler:
Remember Shu's void ability? He absorbs everything related to voids and the cancer. Inori become blind after Mana disappeared. She was covered in the cancer and I believe Inori became blind because of the cancer. Shu absorbed her cancer and thus absorbing her blindness.

Then you might wonder why Inori died. The red strings symbolized Inori's life, she told Shu "take it" and he did. She gave him her life so he could survive. Way back in the beginning, it did show she had some ability in slowing/stopping the process temporarily, I guess her life was enough to stop it. Shu seemed to have kept the blindess side effect which Inori had.

Shu forever alone.

Well, at least the ending was somewhat exciting. I was expecting 24 episodes, so the last episode kind of felt mashed up to me. But, considering the massive amounts of fail in the rest of the series, can't say I want more episodes, exactly.

Spoiler:
Shu being blind seems pointless, indeed. It would make more sense if blindness or vision was a major theme in the series, but it's not, so it just feels tacked-on and unnecessary. The epilogue as well felt kind of tacked on, since all it showed was "hey, Shu survived! And is now a blind bionic man!", which would have just as easily been portrayed with showing Shu surviving the aftermath.

I mean, usually epilogues serve to give extra closure. This one... didn't really serve any purpose I could see.

I give up, that was terrible. If only I'd seen it sooner.

Just about the only good to come out of it is the sexiest character ever.

I'd have to say it was the OST that was the best thing out of the series.

Finally caught up.
Ah well, despite all it's flaws, it was an amusing ride.
Spoiler:
Though I have no clue as well why Shu went blind.
I swear, for series like these, why is it that they never bother to leave an entire episode to act as a epilogue. Series like these need more time to give the viewers a better sense of closure. A 2 minute bit is only going to raise more questions
Believe in the Future, persist in the Present.

Pretty flimsy reasoning. Was everyone else in Japan 100% healthy then?

Spoiler:
You can easily just assume that Inori became blind somehow through the cancer or something...

I'm assuming Shu doesn't absorb the weakness of non-cancer related things.

For example, when Shu regained his ability and pulled out his void. When he took everyone's void he took Can Opener's void as well as his cancer but he didn't take Ayase paralysis-ed legs even though he took her void as well.

Just my guess though.
