Well here's my work after 2 days. The back has been pure misery. At the moment it's pretty much a solid color (though it is really a gradient mesh with some mild transitions) with some blurred shapes thrown on it.
Tomorrow I might try doing it as 3 separate gradient meshes. While I am loath to create my own internal seams to have to deal with... The shape is so crazy I'm just not good enough with gradient meshing to handle it and have the exact control over color transitions on seams that I need.
Kinda letting the transition on her right arm slide for now until my war on Nepgear's upper back is over.

Also of note is I did some mild editing since I last previewed it. Hope I didn't make anything look weird since then.

On another note, my primary skill set lies in using programs... that is to say, this is my first time creating a skin base, so if anyone has some general art advice on it I'm all ears.

@Xerain - The upper back is really hard as there are way too many seams to deal with, but your latest version actually looks really good. I still say that you did a really good job on it. Keep it up! :D

@Ocean - Below will be the version that I will be doing, will that be fine with you?
Image

*Edit*
I went and checked out the episode that has the version you mentioned, I will give you my thoughts on it in the spoilers just in case someone else is watching this anime.

Spoiler:
Image
This is the version right? Overall, the design isn't that much different from the image I posted above, just different color palette. The wings can't be done as they are separate pieces of items. The glove thing, because of the flaps, it will not look good at all to try to mimic it on a flat surface, you can say it has the same problem with the wings, it's a separate piece of item. I prefer the looks of the first glove thing as well. So if you want to, what I can do is using this color scheme and as much of the design from here that I can get and mix it with the image above.

Do let me know your thoughts, then I can get started.

The opening post by Aphrah has a very clear step by step on what you are asking. It would be a good idea for you to re-read the entire post again.

Also, if you rename the folder to PICTURE instead, it will show up right away when you select the USB under the Photo catagory in the XMB.

I copy them over with PS3 media server. It's a pain having to exit the game every time i want to update the file, though. I imagine you also must exit the game when using USB?

Anyhow if only I had followed my original intuition and worked on all her seams because i started working on her back mesh, I wouldn't' have wasted a bunch of time yesterday.

Yes, I am crazy enough to be working on these seams:
Image
(Right click, view image)

Step on is to change the colors so they are set to match up. Step two is to tweak the points on the borders so the line up better. Then repeat for other arm, neck, and bottom of back. The neck and back should be easier than the arms.

I hope to do this in a "one goal per night" fashion to avoid going (further) insane.

an easier way would be download it from the ps3 browser.

Oh good call on the PS3 Media Server. I've only used it to watch movies and anime, never used it for picture sharing. That really saves a hell load of time. Yeah you are forced to exit the game if you want to access the USB.

Honestly speaking though, the underarm area is one of the least seen parts so you really don't have to work too hard on the seams there, that's also why it's sort of sloppily done on the official version as well.

From an user point of view, I can agree with you and Aphrah did mention about it in the opening post too, but from a creator's point of view, I will have to agree with Xerain as you can update the files without needing to quit the game. This saves a tremendous amount of time when you are working on costumes.

To be clear, you DO have to quit the game to transfer with media server. I'd never gotten USB to work because I didn't know I had to make a PICTURES folder. I was wondering if USB transfer had the same issue with having to quit the game.

You need to access the media server and copy the image. You can't access the server while in a game. However if you must also quit to use USB, media server is still certainly faster. Only have to copy once from server to PS3, and no having to plug and unplug the USB stick.

Ah my bad, I misread your post, but yeah, unplugging and replugging the USB is a hassle so in that sense the Media Server is still faster like you said. Also, you don't necessarily have to create a PICTURE folder, it just makes it easier. If you don't have that folder, accessing your images just takes an extra step which is mentioned in the opening post too. Gotta Triangle > Display All to show your files.

Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Tsubasa Kazanari's Relic

Postby Ke-Y » Thu Mar 29, 2012 5:54 pm

I don't know if I should "thank" the fever I got, but it's because of that, I am able to take a few days off from work and with that being said, I present you:

Ocean's Frost Processor Set Costume Request - Senki Zesshou Symphogear - Tsubasa Kazanari's Relic

This costume is a pain to create in the sense that there are no consistent references, every part of the relic looks slightly different from various episodes, illustrations, concepts so it's a pain to get it down. At the end I went with what I feel looks best from the various bits and pieces and here it is.

I've also altered the colors of the blue to a brighter blue to better match the Frost set and making the blue much more icy like to go with the theme. Nepgear's "N" logo and the the glass plate by her collarbone can't be missed too. Also, I've used a different approach to work on this costume this time so the image you see will look really messy and doesn't make as much sense, but what matters is what you see on Nepgear, not the image itself. XD

Hope you guys like it and hope this meets your expectations, Ocean.

Spoiler:
Just like Inori's costume, I've made several versions to meet various people's needs and here's the first and original one - the Safe version:

Image

Next up is the spicier Sexy version:

I don't have an alternate NSFW version for people with stronger taste this time as I am actually about to start packing my stuff up and get ready to travel for a week. I will still be around here and there, but I will not be able to work on the costumes since I won't have my PS3 with me.

@Aphrah - As I mentioned that I will be away for a week, if you are still interested, I can still listen to your request and have some discussions over it like what I did with Ocean's, that way when I get back, I can probably get right to it. I don't mind PMs if you prefer that.

Also, when you update the opening post, be sure to update Darkdam's Magic the Hard Suit - Skin Tone Fixed costume. He said I could re-link this fixed version here.

@Ryusenka16 - I am still waiting for your response on my questions. If you are not going to reply then I'll reopen the Delphinus Set request spot.

The current list of Processor Sets I have thus far and the costumes I've done for them:

- Flame - Inori Yuzuriha's Battle Suit *Done*
- Frost - Tsubasa Kazanari's Relic *Done* [Ocean's Request]
- Wind - Open
- Earth - Open
- Delphinus - Open for suggestions
- Pirate - Not purchased yet

I got Compile Heart and Wedding too but I love the 2 costumes that have already been made for them so I am not intending to create another costume for those 2 Sets.

I lol'ed at that image. Perfect pose for a screenshot.

I find that image rather attractive for Nepgear for some reason, especially with the colored X censoring. xD

I wouldn't mind using that skin template for the hell of it, when you do finish clearing up those seams. Great progress nonetheless, Xerain.
