Finally it's over!!

Postby Gene » Wed Apr 04, 2012 7:44 am

It's been 9 years since Disgaea was released. Finally I just beat this game few mins ago.
The ending was great but not satisfying enough.

I still need to play this >_> I own all 3 versions and yet haven't even started it... How long is it about, anyways?

Actually it's pretty quick. If you ignore all the side quests (Priere, Marjoly, etcs), you can beat this game in less than 3 days. I suggest you to power level laharl in Stellar Graveyard for a bit using winged slayer skill. It will make the stages after that a lot easier.

I went for the extreme and passed stronger enemies bill for 4 times and easily lvled my laharl in Stellar Graveyard to lvl 200. Then I passed weaker enemies bill for 4 times to revert the strength of the enemy to original. After that, I soloed every stage with laharl and defeated Ramington easily.

I was going to start Disgaea 2 until I realized that I got normal ending in the first one because I accidentally killed one of my ally which I don't remember. No wonder the ending didn't satisfy me.

Only 3 days? I sometimes do some side quests, but it depends, and I usually do them to help level. But I guess grinding isn't too bad in the game then...

What version did you play? I'm still undecided with if I want to go with the PS2 or PSP version.

I finished the DS version three years ago, during a trip. Disgaea DS was what made the trip so great.

I played the PSP version on Vita. it's a bit blurry but still enjoyable. It took me about 10 days to beat this game because I was not in rush and had to do other things. I also think that it's possible to beat this game in one day because there isn't much main content to begin with.

I'm not sure about the DS version since I never played it before. But in the DS version, you can recruit Adell and Rozalina when you beat them in the game.

There are a few perks that are on the DS version and aren't on the PSP version, but I'm sure someone got it listed somewhere around here. Either way, I got the DS version because at that time, I had only a DS.

You can recruit Pleinair in the DS version!

@Gene: Which ending did you get? The "true" ending is much more satisfying than the others (though I haven't ever gotten the "bad" ending :X).

That's one. I think the Etna Chapters are DS-exclusive as well.

I got the normal ending which was unintended. I will beat this game again tonight to get the good ending then I might play Disgaea 2 or Devil Survivor 3DS.

@Shizuka
You mean Etna mode?
It's also in PSP version as well.

Got it on GameFAQs:

PSP Version:

- Have no DS version's extended options.
- Have Adell, Rozalin and Zetta fighting, but no recruiting. Pleinair is also not available for recruiting.
- Counter glitch present
- Glitched items present
- No mini-map
- No touch screen
- Good graphics quality
- Good audio quality
- Full voice acting
- Has no Prinny Commentary

DS Version:

- Have DS version's extended options.
- Have Adell, Rozalin and Zetta fighting and recruiting. Pleinair is available for recruiting.
- Counter glitch absent
- Glitched items absent
- Mini-map present
- Touch screen present
- Graphics quality reduced
- Audio quality reduced (BGMs have been completely recomposed)
- Voice acting severely cut down (JP version)
- Includes Nario Wakamoto as Narrator
- Has Prinny Commentary

Still, both versions are great, and deliver the core as good as the PS2 version.

That list doesn't really help me decide :p I mean, I'll probably play them all eventually (why not, I have them all). Do they all have Japanese VAs in them though? I'm guessing only the PS2 and PSP are dual-audio, and I think I want to play it in Japanese (only if all the other games allow the option though).

Just for you, I dug out my DS (haven't charged it in like a year, and it's still at 60%+ battery >_>) and my PSP (haven't charged it in a week and it's completely dead) just to check. Disgaea DS does not have Japanese audio, Disgaea PSP does.

Awesome thanks :) I'm still leaning towards PS2, now moreso because its probably a good idea to play the base version first, and then do the ones with extra content.
