I liked KH1.
I liked KH2.
I kinda liked Chain of Memories.
The rest of it gives me a headache.
I hope that KH3 will actually be a continuation of KH2, and not need information from all these other weird versions of KH.

KH3 will continue after Dream Drop Distance, KH3D ends at the beginning of KH3's plot according to Nomura.
Anyway... so far Dream Drop Distance is amazing... and honestly, if there were two titles I say need to be played before KH3... it would be BbS and Dream Drop Distance, ReCoded and Days are shit. And while ReCoded does explain stuff, you can easily hop into DDD without it.
Also this game... I know it's a Kingdom Hearts title... but it doesn't feel it-- it's like it's fresh, and new. So damn addictive too!
The dream eaters are fun to raise, I find myself going and petting them just for the hell of it from time to time. xD[/color]

I wouldn't want to have to play DDD since I don't have a 3DS.
KH3's plot would be silly without some sort of comprehensive recap.
BbS?
