They were. I actually didn't like Kanako until I watched those, then I realized how great she was. She doesn't get enough screen time in the main series to convey that.

Rather long, 10-15 minute specials.

What the? Why the hell did they do that? I hope fans raged and the DVD bombed, 'cause I sure wouldn't give Aniplex MY money.

I probably would have considered buying it even after I read that they wouldn't put it on blu-ray as long as the price was right. Once I learned they stripped those, they lost my sale.

The Original DVD release had artifact problems. As such, if they do not fix this for this release, I will wait for the blu-ray.

Also, totally bought the Madoka LEs. When you have a job, it doesn't feel expensive any more lololol. :D

I blow my paycheck on tons of crap I don't need, but I can't agree to that. It's still expensive.

So much this. I could easily afford it, it doesn't make it a good buy. Its the principle.

Wait..did people think I was talking about them?

Sorry bout that, I really meant that statement to be about me actually, since before I got a job, I would have balked at even half that price. Prior to my job, I actually hesitated getting Spice and Wolf II at 50 USD (but I eventually pre-ordered). Also, are you guys complaining about Madoka's LE price or general pricing?

I guess for me, I just know that this is a cost that's gonna be inherent in this hobby (much like buying paintball equipment, or buy computer parts or games). I mean we all know that the prices we pay for anime is essentially paying for the entire cost of licensing, localization w. profit margin. If prices were any cheaper, good luck finding anyone who would want to license this stuff. And then we're left with just imports which are hella worse (if you want to own the product ofc, you obviously can still "acquire" episodes obviously).

The Japanese have to essentially pay for the production of the entire show and them some since for non-mainstream stuff, the studios basically pay the TV channels to broadcast their shows.

:Gets up on soapbox:

It's really pretty sad that fans these days have such a low opinion of anime. Has it really become such worthless, disposable garbage entertainment to you people that the prospect of paying over a hundred bucks for a series is inconceivable? If so, surely there must be something better you could be doing with your time.

No, I find having to pay almost $100 bucks for 1/3 of a 12-episode series (meaning almost $300 for the entire series) when they could have released it for $60 or so for a whole-series boxset, inconceivable.

39.99 (TRSI Blu-Ray Price) x 3 = 119.97? 29.99 x 3 = 89.97

Why the hell is everyone using the L.E pricing for their arguments?

Because that's what they advertise? Feel free to show me where I can get Fate/Zero for that price, as far as I know it doesn't exist. I checked on Madoka as well, found it in smallish print to the left of a giant listing for a $75 LE. I almost missed it. Anyway, it is there apparently discounted to the prices you listed.

Well, Fate/Zero is just released....so no you can't find it at R1 prices as its an R2 import. I'm pretty sure Madoka had advertisments for all three versions. The DVD for 90 , Blu-Ray 120, and the LE for about 225 (at discounted prices ofc).

Well, TRSI is supposed the exclusive retailer for Aniplex USA for this release. Hence their price is lower than the Aniplex's MSRP. The point is, why list MSRP if you won't be paying MSRP since you can get the series for under 100, or just a bit over.

Still too expensive for a 12-episode series. Most releases of that length MSRP at $60, which means you could pay like $35-40 for it off of a good sale even before it comes out. (I just did with Okami-san, which included the blu-ray and the DVD version for $35. Plus a mousepad.)

I got Okami also, I would argue the quality differences between the two series could justify the price difference for the singles. Although, I admit, thats very subjective. I mean, are you seriously comparing a mediocre series like Okami to what is arguably one of the best anime of last year(?) in terms of price, value (to both the consumer and licence holder).

Price-wise for me, it's because I have a HUGE backlog of stuff I want, so it really is quantity > quality. I don't import either, too expensive. But with Aniplex, so far I have bought their Kenshin OVAs. It IS expensive, but I think of it as a series that very nostalgic to me, so I think of its as me spoiling myself. I always get stuff on sale, it's all I can do.

However, with the focus on the topic, it was for hope that people who missed out on Garden of Sinners, or didn't want to pay the LE price, may now possibly be able to afford it. I'm crossing my fingers for under $100, but I highly doubt it... Oreimo I'm sure won't be badly priced. Honestly, an LE at $79 (I think it was?) isn't that bad, considering Aniplex, for 13 eps. So I'm sure the standard version will be a decent price for those who skipped it.
