Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale (PS3/PS Vita)

A place for everybody to talk about anything game-related.

Fat Princess won because she kept pulling off specials and hitting with em, the player actually knew how to land the hits, while the others...didn't, just like the other person had 6, while Kratos had -2, and Sly, -1

They didn't wanna rip off Smash Bros entirely, and they have experienced fighting game players making the game, so it is probably better to play it hands on before you knock it

Also, this game is about killing with supers to get points, not to batter the enemy to the point that they get rung out, which is why the stages are boxed in...this is a good thing, because it means that you can't just go after the weakened character, seeing as you are always on an even level, unless the character is at skill lvl 3, and you're at 0...then you're screwed

Also, they have pretty much confirmed other modes, including a stock mode, they just prefer to use the generic, short time mode for previews

That's good, stock mode is pretty much all I ever play in Smash Bros

Same here, sure, it's longer, but it's more entertaining

Remember that Smash Bros is also score based in time mode, it's the same here...it's just quicker to do 3 min previews instead of trying to get people to quickly KO you with stock

So... it's based on total hits? That still sounds annoying...

I'm not knocking it, as it looks like a solid title that I want to see more about. But I question a horrible design choice when I see it. No game, released or unlreased-- including Neptune or Kingdom Hearts is safe from a Mizu-critique/gripe-fest.

That's still an annoying way to approach gameplay no matter how I look at it. Especially if that's the main mode...

But I understand why, I jus thave to ask why?
Since... even though I know, I have to ask why they'd even go with such a choice. =3=

Ah... thanks for letting me know, I hadn't been following the game all that closely. So I had no idea there were other game modes, stock mode would be my mainstay-- it's all i ever play in Brawl. The lack of a stamina bar still bugs me though. xD

Well at least if you kill someone, their bar goes to 0 and it doesn;t stay at level 1-3, that would make not having a stamina bar even worse...LUCKILY, it is based off of how many people you hit with your super moves, IN TIME MODE or whatever it's called...you can win in stock mode by...surviving at least

As for supers, they vary to the point that you may prefer to use your level 1 right away instead of saving up for a level 3, or vice versa, like for Fat Princess, your best bet is to save up for her level 2, while Parappa can cheat and use one of his skills to up his super level to the point that you wanna kill him ASAP...dang cheater

I still hate the lack of a stamina bar of some shape or form, I'm the type of person who likes to go in and dominate in fighting games. Having to build up a bar for a "super" just sounds... unappealing.

If it helps, you still have to combo em to death, it just isn't visible...heck, SSB never really had HP either, you just smacked em up...though maybe I'm just being optimistic

On the plus side, no ring outs means that you can dominate much longer as long as you can continue to build your bar up...

I forget, which style did Digimon Rumble Arena use?

in al lfighting games with supers, you typically have to build up a bar to use them anyway.

MizuMikomi wrote:[color=#404040]Lack of stamina bar, no pitfalls, and most stages have barriers on the side.... why exactly?

This doesn't have to be street fighter to be fun.

pitfalls would be cheap and anticlimactic. (see Virtua Fighter, DOA1, Super Smash, Battle Arena Toshinden etc.) no fun.

barriers are good.

The problem is that people expect the fighting system to be something it's not.

Which is exactly why I'm saying just wait and see, it is obviously a party brawler, but also a fighting game that wants to be taken seriously, so we'll see

it's better without "combos" because combos while take skill, are really cheap exploits to win with no fear of a comeback.

That's one problem that plagues fighting games, they flaunt double digit numbers and flashy combos when not taking into account that is the very thing that makes fighting games so cheap and one sided. a match can practically be rewarded to the player that lands the poke first and does 1 or 2 combos, the match is practically theirs.

Taht's why I prefer more simulation type fighting games like WWE, UFC, etc. because there is always a chance to make a comeback and it keeps both fighters on their toes.

Even the most balanced fighting system is still Karate Champ, and it doesn't need combos to be skillful .

Of course All Stars is a party game so it shouldn't be serious to be fun. If people think it's too chaotic, it's not for them.

Luckily, with this system in place, there IS always a chance for a come back since when you die, you are pretty much on even footing with everyone else, there isn't a weakened enemy on the field at all...plus, you have the ability to even make level 1's hit more than 1 enemy if your opponent is stupid enough, just look at the E3 demo shown during the conference...Sly managed to kill 2 people with his level 1 because they both got under him even though level 1 attacks are only supposed to kill 1 person

This game has potential, that much is a fact, hopefully, they don't screw up

That they are...so Shiz, are you planning on picking this up as well? Seeing as I can play with you either way if you do

For the PS Vita, but maybe not at launch.

Hopefully there's not too much lag between console and handheld then...since it should be fun either way

I'm not really into the PS3 games that are getting a Vita version just to say that the Vita is getting games, but this one of those that I may be getting.
