I read the Lord of the Rings trilogy some years before the movies were announced or released, so I wouldn't call that reading ahead. However, I specifically started reading the Bleach manga because the anime had so much filler, so I would call that reading ahead.
Not trying to pick at words really, that's just how I interpret the phrase "reading ahead" :X
