Fairy Fencer F coming to Steam!

Postby Alice Twilight » Mon Dec 22, 2014 3:10 pm

Spoiler:
As previously reported, Idea Factory have applied for both Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth games for PC, and company president Yoshiteru Sato recently announced in Japan’s Dengeki PlayStation magazine that the series is indeed headed to Steam, and will be released in English, too. [Thanks, Zaregoto.]

“We’ve already decided to release the Neptunia series on PC and in English through Steam next year,” said Sato.

“Nowadays, the demand for moé is quite high overseas, so, we must quickly release the main titles,” added Idea Factory business development manager Damien Urvois. “We also plan to release Fairy Fencer F on Steam next year.”

Sato also mentioned his dreams of expanding mobile games overseas, and says Idea Factory are currently working on releasing them in China and other parts of South-East Asia as well.

If things go smoothly [in the smartphone expansion realm] Urvois said that they may also release a Hakuoki game for smartphone in English. This will be higher resolution compared to the PSP, and fully-voiced as well, so they’ll take up about 2gb of storage space.

Unless NISA and IFI cut a deal, if IFI is releasing it, it might be getting a new localization anyway.

It makes little sense to re-localise it.
As that would require doing the voice acting all over again and such.
That would be expensive.

There's something close precedent for it. RB2 has largely the same script as MK2, but it got an entirely new localization anyway. That doesn't mean they won't just use what NISA already did, but I was just throwing out the possibility.

Although that was sort-of a different game.
At least, changes to the script mean even if you reuse all the old stuff, any new voice acting you'd have to try and fit in, and that be a difficult thing to attempt, especially if you can't get a hold of the original cast, or just licensing issues.
Sometimes it's just easier to start over, or at least completely rerecord some characters' lines.
You'd want to leave that to a last resort though.

I really do wonder if when Advent Force is released in the West and IFI brings it to Steam, those that bought the vanilla version will get some kind of discount on AF or a bonus of some kind.

I feel like that Steam will just get the PS3 version... but with the usual 1080p and 60fps :?

If they don't put up AF on steam, people that doesn't have a PS4 will miss out on it.... And they are bringing the vanilla version to steam. They might as well.

I mean... Too bad for people on Steam then? It's a PS4 game first and currently a PC game nowhere.

Which is why I'm sure IFI will port AF to steam at some point. They might as well since they ported the vanilla version.

There's no real reason they have to, though. Right now, I think only the Neptunia games are on Steam. Let the PS4 have some exclusives for a while.

Also it would bit waste of money if you buy the original game, and then have to buy the same with just an expansion....but, that's just me preferring getting stuff cheap as possible lol.

Beta time! :P

Too bad I missed the cutoff date for the Beta... although my PC probably wouldn't be able to run the game regardless.
