Chapter 8: An Angel’s Assignment
“At last! The day has finally come at long last!” I could not stop myself from shouting this good news to the heavens. What good news, you ask? It seems that we have finally finished preparations to welcome God to our base.
It appears that many of my seniors, all gathered around the Fate Revolution Circuit, cannot hide their excitement either. Well, I mean, such a reaction is natural! After all, as long as we have God with us, I am certain that he will shine his light of hope on us and give us the strength needed to overcome the devils.
“So where is God? Has he arrived yet?” I asked.
“Yeah, is he gonna show up, or are we gonna keep waitin’ forever?” Miss Kuroiel followed up my question, but nobody responded to either of us.
Sir Galtion strokes his gorgeous beard. “If I am quite honest with you two, God is not currently with us.”
I tilt my head a little. “Not currently with us? Um, whatever do you mean?”
That is when Sir Galtion placed a hand on the Fate Revolution Circuit and explained the truth to us. “We finished readjusting this machine. Now all we have to do is go out and find God. That task is ours and ours alone—locate the one who shall become God.”
Miss Kuroiel covers her mouth with one hand. “Whoa, are you serious? We gotta find God? Like, he’s not already in Celestia somewhere?”
“We have no other choice,” Miss Cheriel chimes in. “After all, that’s part of the reason why this machine exists. Isn’t that right, Rakiel?” She winks at the man, who responds by crossing his arms and grunting.
But still, searching for God? However can we do that? It is not as if someone will be walking around with a sign that says, “A pleasure to meet you. I am God, please pick me up and bring me back to Celestia,” or something similar.
Lanael tightens her grip on her frightening doll. “Enough small talk, Galtion. Get to the point. Who is going to find our new God?”
“About that...” He hesitates a moment before turning his gaze to me. “I believe I will leave the search to Lilliel.”
“M-Me!?” I blink several times in an attempt to absorb the information. “You would have me look for God?”
“Yes, you.” He smirks. “In fact, I would love to leave this noble task in your hands.” He snaps his fingers, and lo and behold, a lottery machine appeared before me!
“What is this?” I asked.
“This is the lottery machine of destiny. Whoever wins the grand prize by spinning this will become God, essentially.”
“Oh... I see...” But I did not see. Not really.
Sir Galtion handed me a thick manual. “These are your instructions. The procedure for how to bring the winner back to Celestia is written inside, among other pieces of information. Study it properly.”
I began to flip through the manual. The information inside was... Well, it was rather...
“P-Pardon me, Sir Galtion, but is this procedure correct? I mean, personally, I feel it may be a tad too violent.”
“It is not a problem. Do not hold back.”
“Um, I see... Okay... Still, is it all right for me to be given such an important task? I am the newest arrival of us all, so...”
I cut myself off when Miss Cheriel pat me on the shoulder and squeezed just a little too hard.
“That is all the more reason to let you handle it.” She smiled. “The reason you were brought here to us must be the work of fate. Do you remember the card you chose a while back? The Wheel of Fortune? That told us that you would be the one to encounter a wonderful, handsome God.”
So that is what that was all about. “Y-Yes! I shall do my very best!”
I held the lottery machine tightly in my arms, squishing the manual against my chest as I did so.
Sir Galtion nodded toward me. “I will now send you beyond the dimensional stratum. Our God is certainly waiting for you on the world that lies beyond. We are all depending on you now, Lilliel.”
When I nodded back, I felt my body being surrounded by particles of holy light.
Oh, God whom I have yet to meet, please wait for me. I now begin my journey to find you...
